Euryale’s Lair

Upward they tunnel, cutting through hard stone with a swift and brutal quickness until they emerge into the dark vault. Having made nothing more than the merest shadow of sound, in the strange manner of their digging, the surprise the attain over creatures dependent upon hearing is all but complete. Surprise, perhaps, would have mattered little however, for sturdy mail and well-forged shields easily turn back the clumsy blows struck against them and axes swung ruthlessly quickly reduce the angry battle calls of the these grimlocks, the elite she had left behind as guardians, to a dead silence. Those few with both the sense and the luck to flee stop short upon finding the corpse of the many headed creature Euryale kept to prevent entry into the inner caverns of her lair. Sightless though they are, they utter hoarse cries in fear of the size and anger they perceive before them. Mighty arms seize them and hurl their bodies against the cavern walls heedless of whether they die or are simply left as crippled wrecks among the stones. The screams of the wounded fill the air, but there is no compassion to be found here and the only answer such crying receives is the sound of heavy blows smashing through the great envenomed doors behind which Euryale kept the spoil she had looted these long years in the Underforums.

Chests are smashed open and their glittering contents stuffed into sacks and carried away by the dwarves. Items of magic are likewise taken as is a stone statue, the statue of a woman which is carried by the giant who slew the beast, a woman who at one time was valued by the One they name father. Still the screams fill the air, but when the looting is complete there is only silence to greet them. And when Euryale returns she shall find little here save the broken and the dead, a few gaudy baubles and trinkets deemed of no value, and a single stone statue to remind her of triumphs lost.

The Tunnels

Even creatures as savage as these warriors flushed with victory move with caution, and even a trace of fear, as they move with the statue into the tunnels which lead below, below to where it has been said a terrible being of battle and victory has made his home. They are many and the hounds are with them, two of the great mastiffs which move so well in this lightless place. They are many and they have triumphed and the taste of their enemies blood is still fresh in their mouths. They are many and despite their numbers they are unsure for while their fear of the Mistress impels them forward there is that within them which suspects that a greater terror lies ahead of them. Terror, however, makes its presence known behind them as a well made deadfall opens only after the main body of the group has passed and fully a dozen of these warriors fall into a pit which extends to such depth that many long seconds pass before the startled, frightened cries of the fallen are silenced by the brief and brutal note of impact. Confusion seizes the living, for the way of escape is now barred, and in the confusion two great forms appear as if emerging from the shadows themselves, iron-helmed warriors of great size and strength. The mastiffs do nothing save whimper quietly for here is an aggressiveness that overwhelms their own. They do not speak, these giants, save for a single snarled sentence, “None shall contest our claim!” They simply attack and soon the grimlocks are dead, their bodies broken by powerful blows. The statue is seized and the hounds meekly follow behind the giants.

ooc: The fate of the Possessor is now in the hands of Terrakis - and that is not a good thing.

ooc: Looks like everyone has forgotten about the most dangerous and unusual ‘character’ in the game .....

From the Ravine and through the Ley Lines

An appetite recently focused upon readily available feasting below the forums stirs. Life, life fit for consuming, and power, great power, are nearby. To speak of a turning of that which has neither shape nor form is not entirely true, but words reveal their limits in speaking of such a thing as the Hunger within the Forums. Thus, incorrect as it may be to describe it so, the Hunger turns. It is an aggressive turning for the desire to consume is checked by no other value and an appetite without limit recognizes no boundaries. It reaches furiously through the channels, what others have name Ley Lines, and seizes hold of that which is alive. As is often the case, it is the weakest and those least able to defend themselves which fall most easily. Threads long at the bottom of their respective forums are seized and their contents lost into a gaping emptiness. Posts, both well-crafted and spontaneous are snatched away into non-being and Choc is powerless to save them. Life and power flow again through these desecrated Ley Lines and with neither grass nor storm to seize it, all is lost into the ravenous emptiness of the Hunger. Soon even the great lives hovering near these lines shall be taken......

ooc: Just when you think it can’t get any worse

All the activity along the Ley Lines has gotten the attention of the Hunger and it looks like there will be no purifying of the lines, or any activity along them at all for that matter, if a way cannot be found to neutralize it. The Hunger controls the Ley Lines so long as it is focused upon them.

Euryale

Her forces moved into the cavern that was one floor under the gnome village that had been destroyed...

When she got there, the seventy grimlocks scoured the place, spread out in groups and searched the caverns for any sign of danger. Some went East, which would take them near the cavern exit that led down toward Terrakis's lair. Most went North across the bridge and then split again into East and West. The ones that went West were nearing the cave entrance that would take them back to Euryale's lair. Those that crossed the bridge and went East would find no exits except for the small hole which fed the deep lake. The twenty-eight Shadow hounds stayed near their master and continually moved about her, keeping her hidden in thier shadowy presence. Euryale searched with her eyes of green fire for any sign of movement. Anything that could see that would look her in the eye would meet thier end. She had her bow out and an arrow drawn, but not pulled at the ready. The arrow dripped with her venom which would kill anything in a few rounds.

OOC>>>No more posts from Euryale or her army until Saithele and Cyril posts.

"Arcades!!!.....we have not failed yet, old friend...hang on.."

She watches as the giants start appearing, and feels the shift in the ley lines, not to mention that they are not safe anymore....for the first time, she lets the emotion of nervousness cross her features....

Quickly she dons belongings, all the while gauging distance and senses, feeling the ley lines as shadow creeps thru them faster and faster....

Knowing she has no choice at all now, she reaches into the vast depths of her cloak, pulling out two objects of ancient origin... one thought lost centuries ago, and the other never known to exist except to a select few... She must get them away from here immediately...

The t'angreal she places in her left hand, sitting directly atop the rune carved there, and turns to Arcades, her eyes glowing silver to match the slow glow of the tiny statue. Laying her right hand to Arcade's forehead she softly whispers a spell, a spell of healing last used over 3 centuries ago. As she whispers the silver light of the t'angreal envelopes Arcade's, healing him just enough to enable flying and returning enough of his strength to be capable of flying them out of where they are.... The t'angreal explodes into bright shards
that fly thru the waves of the ley line, soon out of eyesight...

She takes the second object, and shaking her head, puts it back in her cloak, knowing she does not have time now to do it, and jumps on Arcade's back....

Noticing the look on Arcade's face, she shakes her head, whispering....
"I know old friend, but we are out of options....we must be off like an elf's arrow or we will die.... We must deal with the ley lines at a later time. We must get to safetly to fully heal you. Head to the mountains to the West, to a ravine cliff I know of" As she dons her gloves, the worry shows
plainly on her face, and she pats Arcade's neck, knowing he feels her thoughts. She nods at him to leave, her thoughts already running with troubled images of what may soon happen as she repeatedly runs a finger over the cloud clasp the WindBringer gave to her...

This post is for Arcades...he is having trouble getting in.

ARCADES

Arcades lifts his head up with a level of renewed strength, taking heed to the aproaching danger. The Elder dragon lifts his friend up onto the base of his neck, infront of his great golden wings and takes flight, narrowly missing a Shadow Giant.

He looks down from the skys at the ravenous banewolves whom nearly took his life and fills with a sense of dread, for these misshapen creatures are obviously the basis of Magical Unlife, while his kind are the basis of Magical Life. Arcades makes a single sweep around the area before heading off for the area described to him by Kaylisa.

After a few moments spent amongst the clouds, Arcades lands on the cliffside, taking special note of a singular purple flower growing from the rocks. Upon landing, Arcades lays his head down, allowing his passenger to climb off.

"This is the place you spoke of Kaylisa? We should be safe here for now... hopefully........"

She slides down Arcade's neck, patting him, and sits down next to the purple wildflower, remembering that day long ago last she looked from this cliff face.... She scans the ground with attentive eyes finally spying what she searches for, and picks up three precious seeds she dropped that day...

As she gazes out over the valley, a single silver tear falls... she can see the shadow moving at an acclerated rate thru the lines, and she grasps the cloud clasp in her hand so tight, that a drop of blood slowly falls to the ground, seeping into the rock.

She looks up at Arcades, whispering softly,
"A time will come, when we will have to do the unthinkable. I will have to break an ancient promise, but it will be our only choice." She puts a hand to her cloak, resting her hand on the item inside, then looks to the seeds in her hand again, carefully
putting them in a vial in her pouch.

Standing, she lays her pack and staff aside, then rummages through her cloak, pulling out the vital herbs she needs to heal Arcades the rest of the way. Rubbing them together in her palms, she holds her covered hands out to him.....

The dragon nods solemly to Kaylisa and draws the healing herbs into his mouth from her hands with his toung, leaving her hands quite soaked in his saliva. The herbs make him slightly tired, but out of sheer stubornness, he remains awake.

I understand, and I will help you for as long as I am able. The lines must be purged, and my brothers and sisters lives must be avenged. I feel... that upon purifying the ley lines, I might uncover more about their deaths.

He swivels his neck back to look at Kaylisa, gently nuzzling his snout against her side in a caring manner before looking back at his wounds from the banewolves, not realizing exactly how grevious they were untill inspecting them

Good Ancestors! Once upon a time I didnt think anything could pierce my ancient hide, but these beasts did so with clean effectiveness. Now there's room for decline in my pride, yet again!laughs ruefully at himself and groans, biting back a bit of pain in his side

She looks at her hands, and wipes them on the rocks, watching as smoke rises briefly from the smears.....a small smile crosses her face and she pats his nose as he nuzzles her.

"Thank you, old friend...I am beginning to think that smiles will be few and far between in the coming days..." She chuckles again at his comment, then looks at one of the wounds closest to her, and frowns. "You sleep awhile, and I'll keep watch. I think we are safe enough for now. We will
need to plan soon... I will awake you in a few hours."
Still holding the cloud clasp, another idea starts to form, and she lets her mind freely roam as she looks over the valley, following the movement of the giants in the distance .......... and wondering if they will make it out of this alive, if
anyone will....
