Im 15,(could pass for 17)and i want to camp on the beach to celebrate my birthday with some mates. my mum claims its against the law but i think that if people can camp on the moors, why not on the beach? can someone please tell me my legal rights and yes, it is a part of the beach on a higher level which has never been covered by water. thanks

No, I don't think its illegal to camp on the beach as far as I know...but then, its not something you hear about often. Maybe some people more knowledgable about the law can answer your question with a more certain answer. Oh, and Happy Birthday!!

Bah. We've had a couple of party's in the local dunes, forests and beaches. And on many of those occasions, we've been tossed out by the police. Unfortunately, I did not have the time to ask just 'why' we were 'asked' to leave, but I'm sure they had a pretty good reason.

Come on guys, a little mental exercise is good for you (even on a Sunday )

This should give you all the answers you need. Just read the section on "Access to Beaches"

Probably not. You could be ejected for a variety of reasons. However, unless the police can be bothered to spoil your fun, you'll probably get away with it. Just make sure you behave responsibly i.e. don't litter the place and make sure you're not disturbing any wildlife or wandering into a SSI. You may also be in breach of local byelaws, so make sure you check out any signs and warning notices.

Oh, and get Acrobat Reader for those handy .pdf files
