If you turn the game without a disk, click the triangle for vwersion then move to consol and click options you can turn the diagnose option, it's suppost to help with some disk reading problems. If you do end up trying to repair it yourself you might find some of the info at this link helpfull.
http://www.arstechnica.com/reviews/0...ps2/ps2-1.html Good Luck.

Yes, I have replaced lasers and such. First, what exactly is the problem you're having. Is it the Disk Read Error? If so, if you call Sony, tell them that is what problem you're having, and be firm with them about the fact that this is a design flaw, they will fix it for free. If it's not that, then what you need to do is turn the PS2 upside down. You will see little "squares". Pop those off. The screws are underneath. Look on both the "top" and "bottom" level of the PS2 (when upside down) for the screws. Here's a link on how to clean it. Again, THIS WILL VOID YOUR WARRANTY!!! (I'll have to come back when I get home and put in the link, I don't have it at work, sorry).

I take it since thay want $80 the warrenty is no longer valid, else the repair, replacement should be free. [ 02-23-2004, 01:06 PM: Message edited by: pritchke ] |

If your warrenty is still good don't open it up. They are required to either fix it or replace it.
If the warrenty has expired and the price of getting it fixed is almost the same as buying a new one and it isn't working, than go right ahead. At least this is what I think. |

Well it is fixed
I LOVE YOU SAGERIDDER!!!! I was about to do what the guide said, but then I remembered you said about the Diagnostics thing, so I changed it, and it works fine, I ran a disk cleaner through it aswell. It is still with Diagnostics on, does this have any detrimental effects? Or can I leave it on like this?

Glad it worked. It should default to off when you power off the game.Just like if you do options on the driver to increase disc speed, or smooth the texture mapping they go back to standard when you power off.
