a 14 year old boy, model student of a catholic school in rosario, argentina (where i was born) was yesterday expelled from school because his girlfriend of 15 (student of another school) is expecting a baby. when he tried to talk this with his teachers in school for more advice, they reported him to the director of the school (a priest) that inmediately decided to suspend him and told him to find a new school. when questioned by the press, he said that the school (which is catholic) does not support premarital relations, and that as catholics they dont want him because he might be a bad influence for his schoolmates. also that at that age he is not ready to be a father, and that according to the gospel he is in deadly sin, something the school cant accept because they are in concordance to the vaticans orders regarding premarital sex. "as catholics we dont support or encourage premarital relations", said the priest jorge rios, head of the school.
what did they want? that he made her abort and pretend nothing happened?, said the kids father. well, it didnt happen, as soon as he found out, he contacted us and her family and has been a man about it. i am very proud of my son, he concluded. he wasnt the only one showing support, as he received lots of letters from friends and family. after legal pressure from the parents, the school authorities have accepted to reinstate him but only until the end of this year (when the school year finishes in argentina). next year, he is going to have to find a new school. amazingly enough, whilst the pregnancy is now over 2 months, the teachers in the school have opted not even to mention the subject in the classroom.

Hmm... norom, I don't have much insight in Argentinia, but do they have many public schools over there? So there actually *is* a different school for him to go to?

well, yes, quite a bit actually, depending on which city you live in.
for example, rosario, where i grew up. a million and a half inhabitants, around 20 or more public schools plus the privates which are around 50 or so. the 2 best public schools, "superior de comercio" y "politecnico" have entrance tests, due to the high quantity of alumns wanting to attend. the education system is quite good, though in the last years a bit decadent due to the ongoing crisis argentina is going through.

It's like his father said, he was open an honest about it, he was an adult. The school should have looked at that.

It looks like a catch 22 ,since his girlfriend kept the baby the school said he has to go because of "premarital relations" but if she had aborted the baby they would have probably booted him anyway because the catholics are against abortion. IMHO the school should realy mind its own business where a students private life is concerned. What goes on outside the school shouldnt have and effect on what happens inside the school.

Seriously that sucks :|
I'm amazed about the fact the parents are so calm under this situation BTW Did the School ever realise there are other ways to get pregnent then having sexual intercourse?

Bah! the school should have kept their noses out of it, and let the parents and the Local Aluthorites deal with it. If the... *ahem* act didnt happen on school ground/propety, they have no right to interfere. I feel sorry for the kid, be betrayed like that tho... still, I think the parents *should** have diciplined *both* children. well thats just my view.
