Being just a week removed from moving up from a month on a 14.4 Modem to DSL (768 down/128 up), I think I can really understand your enthusiasm.

But, unfortunately, I have to second Cb on one thing: DSL seems everywhere wondefully fast but here ! But, well, it is still some improvement even here.
Btw, do you have to pay for your DSL hardware components ? German Telecom provides me with everything but the Ethernet network card for free (DSL modem and splitter) ? And how much are paying for it ?

Verizon DSL here in Texas did the same, R³. I'm getting mine at 768K down, 128K up, $39.99 per month, unlimited access, setup fees waived, and cable modem. You can pick up a decent Ethernet NIC for under $30 in most locations, so that's not too much of a concern.

I'm generally getting anywhere from 690-768K + on my downloads, depending on where I'm going. DSL definitely makes a HUGE diff!

14.4? Wow, you're definitely moving up from a 1970 Beetle to an Audi Quattro.

Basically I'm going on a contract for 12 months which costs $AUD 75 a month plus install of $AUD 220. I guess the cost of my ADSL modem is amortized over that 12 month period because at the end of it I own it. Since I have a laptop with a USB port I don't need an Ethernet card but it comes free anyway (and I'll take it in case I get a new PC). The line splitter and everything else comes included. I have a 3GB download limit per month which I'm pretty sure I'll never get near.

Memnoch, Sazerac, thanks for that info.
I am always interested in how things like that work elsewhere.

And Memnoch, just hang on, only one more week for you !
