OK, I ran the defrag and the problem is still there. The sound is normal and continues on but I can't see anything but a couple of fires on the screen (and all the menus). Even when I pull up the options menu then close it, a shadow of it remains. Any thoughts now, o learned ones?

Like I said, a fragmented drive won't cause those problems.
Check for overheating, reinstall drivers, remove card and put it back in. Are you using the latest catalyst drivers? Make sure you have the highest version of directx installed (game should check this but you never know...).
