I plan on starting a new game being mage as my main, I want to pass the game with the strict minimum without dual classing, so im wandering would i be able to pass the game just by myself with just a mage, if not what else would i need ?

I believe if that is the only character you are going to keep it will be
extremely difficult to make it through the beggining stages. I think if
you are familiar with combat tactics you might be able to do it??
It's not impossible I know of some talented tactical people from this
board that have proclaimed doing it but I really dont know if a solo mage
can really do it? best of luck!

I have not solo as a pure class mage before but from what I've heard it is possible, the fights in the beginning will be a bit difficult and you will always need summon creatures' aid. But once you have higher level spells like Abi Dalzim's Horrid Wilting things get a bit easier (I'm sure if Rikard see this he will have a say).

Yeah a couple of months ago I solod a sorceror (ok so not a mage, but similar) through the game. Although I did remove the XP cap to make it more fun in the later stages.
U definitely need to choose Melf's minute meteors at the beginning and stoneskin and mirror image. Polymorph self is very useful especially when fighting liches. The green slime form has 100% magic resitance. It is most definitely possible with ANY class or kit to solo the game. Hehe, I did a barbarian b4 that and he got to level 40. hehe, he was doing more damage to Firkraag when I fought him then Firkraag was doing to him. Not often u beat the dragons in melee. Oh yeah he was a half-orc barbarian and had over 200HP and 19 STR, hehe... ahh memories

There's a solo mage walkthrough, (titled The Journal of Elmonster) here: http://members.home.net/mrkevvy/welcome.html that you might find useful. It has some pretty good combat tips. Good luck!

When you say "solo", do you mean completely by yourself with no help even from minsc, aerie, yoshimo, etc.?

Solo means by yourself. No help from anyone.

You don't need Imoen in the party for the quest anyway. Lord Raptor told her to hop it, and he finished the game fine!
