im not doubting anyones skills, but heres a toughy

im runinng on a god knows how old copmaq win 98, which i am surpised it still runs with all the crap on it. anywho, whenver i go to install baldurs gate, or rather, when i put the disk in, intall isnt an option, it comes up as the normal game screen, with uninstall and things, of course whenever i click uninstall or play or anything else for that matter, there is an error in not not being able to find the file, now, i can go to the disk and go to the setup icon, and it will start installing, but it will stop around 10-11% and my comp will freeze, i know my main problem is this computer, but i was wondering if there is anythign i can do, ok by the way, i DID delete the black isle folder, in my program files, because whenever it does install that small percentage, it puts a data folder and some other stuff, so i just deleted it.

well if you can help, great if you cant, no big deal, ill have to go back to RC tycoon on this comp, i uses my other copmuter to play BG
oh welll
thanks

Check if your computer meets the minimal requirements.

Have a friend with an external hard drive? If you do, then you can install the game on their computer, move the files to your computer, putting them in the same place as the original files...there may be some serial number issues (I'm not sure, but if there are, use this ONLY to be able to reinstall)...
I don't mean to sound irrate with this, but REMEMBER! NEVER DELETE A PROGRAM! IT STAYS ON THE PROGRAM LIST BUT CANNOT BE UNINSTALLED, BECAUSE THE COMPUTER CAN NO LONGER FIND IT!

That's not the only solution, but it's the one I've used the most, because I DO have an external hard-drive...

PS: Deleting things does not remove them from your system, as you've now found out...There are programs out there that DO, though they can be devastatingly effective...I use an erasing program called "Eraser 53" and it's vicious...and it keeps those deleted things from being in my hard drive, which probably slows things down anyway...

Sorry for the long post...

Taran, don't rule out the fact that your discs may well be screwed. I've had to buy three sets of Baldur's Gate CDs in the five years I've been playing this game, since they can quite easily become too scratched to use.

Have you tried the following:

1) Install the game and wait until i 'frezes'.
2) Restart you PC
3) go to the Control Panel and start the 'Add/remove programs' tool.
4) See if you can find BG1 as one of the installed programs. If yes: Select it and remove it. If no: Hmm - this didn't work - reinstall your HD from scratch
5) Restart your PC
6) Install BG1 and cross fingers
