I've just completed BG1 and am planning to get BG2. However, I was wondering if it was also worth investing some money into NWN as well. I've heard a lot of good things about this game. I just wasn't sure if I could easily 'pick up and play'(as such), following on from BG? Any ideas?

I'd say go for it. NWN is not party based, although you can have up to two henchman if you pick up the HOTU expansion, and the view is different. Also, the rules are updated, but nothing a little reading couldn't help out with. I like both, probably just a matter of personal preference.

It is a good game. Especially if you have the time to play it online. IW has it's very own server, undermountain, which is brilliant. Il have to visit more often. It is very differnet however. It uses a different ruleset, as Marathon pointed out it is not party based, and also the view is different, but it is a nice game. Make sure you pick up the expansions with it too though, for they really make the game.

Neverwinter Nights offer more than most other games, so it's comes well recomended. Don't make the mistake of judging the entire game by the mediocre Official Campaign that comes with the game. The true strength of NWN is the free online gaming, and the ability to create your own adventures (modules) with the toolset that comes with the game, or perhaps play one of the hundreds available to download.

While the expansion packs Shadows Of Undrentide and Hordes of the Underdark are way better than the original campaign and offers alot of new eneimes, items and spells, the are still not as good as BG 2 as a whole. The online gaming capability of NWN far exceeds anything BG 2 can muster, though.

NWN also uses the 3rd Edition rules, as opposed to the 2nd Ed. used in the BG games, so you'll need to accustom yourself to a whole new ruleset. Some things you'll recognice, but alot is new.

If you are going to buy then get the new Plantinum pack. For $39.99 you get NWN plus BOTH expansions. This is a great savings because Hordes of Underdark still sells for $29.99 by itself. I liked the original campaign okay, though there are many who didn't, but the character you developed in NWN can be carried on into both expansions. The greatest strength that I find with this series is that at the Bioware site there are many, many modules that the community made and they are free to download. Some are a farbetter than the original NWN in plot and detail.

Well I bought NWN and the expansion packs today and have begun my adventuring with a Dwarf Fighter. The view was a bit difficult to get my head around at first but it didn't take me long to get used to it and get through the accademy missions. It's going well so far...

Hey Blunderbuss. Make sure you have updated so you are patched to version 1.64 as it added a few fixes to the OC.

Also if you want to play online with us check out the Escape From Undermountain forum.

Once you have played this then you won't want to go back to the OC

Yeh I've patched it; first thing I do when I get a game. And I'm just going to get a bit more used to it before I start gaming on the forum's game.

BG1 is my favorite game I've ever played, up there with Might and Magic 6 and 7.
I'd have to say that NWN has given me almost as much enjoyment as any of them.
It's so versatile and once you get used to the single player character it's fantastic.
