Glad to hear it Cloudy. Oasis is down though, right? The power outages went as far west as Kalamazoo and Battle Creek, MI. That's only a bit more than an hour from me.

From the map they showed on TV, I don't think so. Plus, Chicago has a backup fail-safe. I don't know if it's better than NYC's or not -- I think I heard NYC had fail-safes that didn't work.

You know, this was simple math. There was more demand for power than the lines could hold. Our power grid is all interconnected so we can meet demands all over as they fluctuate. However, when the total aggregate demand over all geographical areas is peaking, it stresses the system. The energy crisis just reared its ugly head -- at Summer peak when production was running full steam, commuter lines were running full-steam, and everyone was cranking the AC's full blast to combat the heat.

Nope, TL, Oasis [img]graemlins/egypt.gif[/img] is up! It didn't go down, that I know of, but then I couldn't check it btw about 4:00 and 6:30 or so as I had no power then.

And to answer Cloudy about the fridge... no we only had ceral and toast in the flat. so apart from breakfast we ate out or ordered in *when capable of using a phone that is* in true bachalor style. The flat was above a bakers and the bottle shop was next door, specialising in real beer from all over belguim, Germany and Netherlands.
