How many skills should one allot for a particular skill?
As it becomes more and more difficult, as the char levels up.
Its difficult to allot more skill points to a particular skill.
sword should u allot upto 10 to get a good hacking ??
should u alllot 10 to get a good magic for sorcery or a particular magic book??

Which skill you wish to spend your skill points on are entirely up to you. But there´s absolutely no need to throw away hard earned skill points on sword skill. May I suggest you put your points on skills that can´t be trained in the guilds? Sorcery, gallantry, prowess are some very nice skill you can´t train in the guilds. Take the sword skilll on the other hand. Say you have a ninja (former barabarian, warrior). He´s a member in the warrior´s guild, the thieve´s guild and the bushi dojo. For every lvl up he can gain +3 sword skill (+1 in every guild) by training. It´s quite pointless to throw away skill points on the sword skill then

Don't do same 'mistake' as I did.
I used skill points before looking where should I use 'em.
In post: Best tips you can find well made charts for allmost everything.
Theres also where you can train your people and what can they learn in guilds.

It's usefull to seek how to train example your warrior. Like WillowIX said
don't waste your skill points to something that you can learn in guilds just for gold!

Look throught game manual, there's where guild should you join and what role should you learn to make ultimate party. Look also old topics in this forum,
there's plenty of advices and oppinions to train your party!

To join all the guilds, just accept a quest for a new class, join the guild and then cancel the quest. That way your Warlock can get Athletics / Weapon training, but can stay a Warlock.

I just worked this out before visiting Skull Castle Doh!

Incidentally, 7 seems to work fine as a max to take your skills to in almost all cases.
Except Locksn'traps and Identify item, which I've found you need more for on occasion.

I generally train spell skills to level 7, at which point I train in other things (bless, enchant, artifacts, etc.). Attack skills I train in until I hit 12, at which point I move to another skill.

Skill points I allocate to the last thing in my skill list that I can't train in -- for example, prowess and gallantry get points way before sorcery, since sorcery is much earlier in the list. I don't add extra weapons until I've filled up the other one because the new ones occupy a spot on the skill list permanently -- if they've never been trained, then axe (for example) goes away when you become a warlock.

I train all magic schools to 7 and all other skills to 12. I invest my skill points in Sorcery first and when I reach 12 then I invest in Prowess and Gallantry. I do not invest my skill points in any other skill except for dire need (Traps and Locks to 4 so as I can open chests in Valeia and skills that I want to preserve during role changes to 1).

You're welcome, Ultima. Happy skill-raising!

And I never thought they did much, either, until I noticed my hand-to-hand combat damage going up and up. They're really under-rated.

Well, no matter. That spam will be gone in moments.

All due apologies for cluttering...
