I have entered the Temple, the walkthrough says to get the heretic key from Kol outside the Temple. He is not outside the temple, so I can't get the heretic key. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Kol should have been outside the temple in the front. He always has in my experience. If, for some reason, he's not, the heretic key is not ABSOLUTELY necessary. It's used to get into a room with the statue of Kerah, where have an informative talk but it's not necessary to complete the game. It's rather hard to get this game to a point where it's impossible to complete because of a mistake you've made.

As already mentioned, you can get through the game without Kol's key but if you really want it, email me.

I found Kol and talked to him at length. There was nothing about a key, however. Do I need to kill him? My rogue's pickpocket skills aren't very good yet.

It doesn't matter how long you talk to him. Just tell him "Key" and you'll get it.
