What ever you do, do not cast an ice spell against the king.
I got everyone angry, and had to fight my way out.

Had to lick my wounds better after that.

As the World Famouse Homer Simpson said "....DOH...."

Morgue,
I did that the first time I "went for the gold"

I did froze his guards and then let loose with both cannons, so to speak.
Having to fight every other guard was simple but annoying so I reloaded and
tried having my ratling thief-ranger-ninja steal the key. The king didn't
turn aggressive so I looted away without interference. (Would have been nice
if the guards *had* become agg once they saw you open any of the vaults)

But, then again, killing them is putting them out of our misery....
Stouts talk too much, and I's be a plund'r. I's likes golds too much.

It's been a while, but once you're in the first vault, can't you clean them all out? Either that, or I remember that you can go through the main doors (right past the guards) into the vault area, enter each one, clean them out, and none of the guards will lift a finger. I think there's a subplot that all the stouts actually think Freyedies is loopy and wouldn't mind seeing him go away

Am I remembering this stuff wrong?

Been a while for me as well, but I seem to recall clearing out the vaults without having offed the king. Amused me that you could do it under the guard's noses and none of them reacted at all.
Yes, there is mention that Freyedies is a bit bonkers, at least from some characters. I don't recall it being universally supported by all the stouts so you could probably argue the point effectively either way.

BTW - I agree that some of the # of posts level pictures are icky. Maybe someone should start a poll on which ones everyone would like to see changed.

Question Mark

Far be it for me to complain about the hard work Ziroc & Chocolate have done to put together such an excellent looking board!

I will just wait out the magister for a couple more posts

Killing Raskalion does not disturb the stouts. Killing Freyedies does. But you need not kill him if your Pickpocket skill is enough high. You can steal the key and all his goods except Krakoendon. Krakoendon is nothing to write home about (it can't be blessed), thus loosing Krakoendon is no loss.
With the key, you can loot all treasure rooms freely. The guards will yell "Stay away from the King's treasure or else!" and observe your dark work.
People in Gael Serran say that Boogres are the most stupid beings there. They are not. Stouts are better. The guards are a proof of it BTW, you can see a stout trying to dig through Freyedies' throne making "Um, eh, much work to do!..." sometimes. Another proof

Some experiments and results:

1) Casting the circle of fire spell on one's own party in a way that will put Freyedies inside the fire automatically results in Freyedies' and his guards' attacking the party.

2) Teleporting Raskalion or a monster within close proximity of Freyedies and bombarding them with a storm spell thus also hurting Freyedies is not considered an atrocity (as we have all discovered with other NPCs). However if Freyedies dies the miners still become mad.

3) Teleporting Freyedies to the lower levels of the mines and killing him out of the guards' sight is still considered an atrocity.

4) Teleporting Freyedies into the lava of the burning cavern does not hurt him the slightest bit as is the case with monsters

5) Teleporting Freyedies to the bottom of the sinking lake actually does make him gasp for air, and eventually he dies. This also makes the miners just a wee bit agitated.

Conclusion: You are absolutely right, WillowIX. The death of the king is the trigger.

6) However: I found out that if one petrifies a guard or a miner, kills the king, and then casts stone to flesh on the petrified stout, that stout will not start attacking the party.

My experiments also yielded me some other chance discoveries:

7) The vault key can be easily pickpocketed from the king, but it seems impossible to pickpocket Kraokendon.

8) As we all know one can pickpocket the dragon ore from Freyedies, give it back to him and thus have him make more dragon armours. (The ore is not used up in making the first armours). Also one of the chests in the king's private vault room contains a dragon armour. However, it seems that a second dragon armour, found underneath the anvil inside the vault, only appears after the king has been killed.

9) In order to complete experiment two I wanted to use monsters that I did not have to search for too long. So I went down to the treasure vault (with the key I had pickpocketed from Freyedies) and started teleporting Squixes out of the chests. A squix can actually be teleported out in the middle of a room. It has an odd square base and it remains on the spot where it launches breath attacks. However, if one steps close to its old treasure chest it immediately reappears in the chest. This seems rather peculiar.

10) One thing I did not have time to try was teleporting lava hounds and insane miners up to the throne room and hide behind Freyedies until he got killed by their attacks on the party.

11) One last thing: Has anyone tried charging Kraokendon in the Black Fire? ... Radek?

No, I haven't tried it. Also, I've never been able to pickpocket Krakoendon, even with Pickocket 14. Well, I have thought so far that it's me who is the expert for getting crazy ideas and realizing them with stubborness typical for me here. No! I was defeated! I was shattered! I was smeared on a wall! A fantastic work, Bsftcs!

WowZah!!!!

What a thorough experiment, bsftcs!!!!

Is there any variable that you didn't try?? I like it enough that it should be added to the Best Tips just because it is so complete an exploration of what would happen!
