ZFR,
Let me check the interplay forums again. I JUST read about this problem there yesterday.

Okay, the solution isn't as promising as I thought but it does offer SOME hope.
Anyway, you have two options: 1. To replay the whole thing from the entering the Monastery (The game DOES generate an autosave when you enter the Monastery map - so you would have to refight your way through the Yetis and the white wyrms and then re-enter the monastery.) If the "glitch" happened BEFORE you have done any of the 8 chambers, then restarting from that auto-save might be the easiest solution. 2. To enable cheats in IWD2 configuration utility and then to use CTRL+J to leap over that "invisible" person Occassionally, the AI pathing for the monks get ALL out of whack.

yes, had to reload from the beggining of the monastery... unfortunately this happened towards the (end before 8 chambers), so had to replay almost whole thing....
i tried going to sersa and resting there (in spite of the fact that my party was scattered i could rest for 8 hours but not till fully healed)... but even after resting monk was still there... i found a solution which involved area spells but it had the... er... side effect of all monks becoming red... anyway... after reloading i found the best solution is to simply keep all doors closed behind you

That area is badly scripted in terms of the wandering monks. It looks as though they had more map room to expand that level, and given all the pathing problems if causes for your party, they probably SHOULD have made it bigger.
How that monk manages to go invisible is beyond me.
