Only recently, I started stealing items from shops.. with little success. =(

As I was running through my inventory, I accidentally sold a Heavy Heal Pot to Braffit and got 581 gold from it. I suddenly remembered that Heavy Heal Pots can be made from Medium and Light Heal Pots. I checked the price of these two and it costs only 276 and 110 gold respectively...

With a little capital of 386 gold, i can gain a profit of 195!

hehe... now I can do some business... I bought all the Med Heal and Light heal pots, combined them and sold the Heavy heal pots with a whopping profit of 4000+!

There are also others... Flash Powder + Sneeze Powder = some unknown powder and Braffit will buy it a 670!

And while mixing pots, my bishops is gaining alchemy skills as well. =) Now I can have my bard to invest into fighting skills instead of crummy pickpocketing...

That would be a Pandomonium Powder (Power of 3)

Other combinations include:

Boom Bomb + Stink Bomb = Acid Bomb (Pwr 4)

Fire Bomb + Ice Bomb = Canned Elemental (Pwr 6?!)

Heavy Heal + Cure Disease = Renewal (1)

Heavy Heal + Heavy Stamina =Restoration (3)

Mod. Heal + Mod Stamina = Pick-Me-Up (6)

Not sure on the Alchemy skills needed to be able to obtain some of these mixes since I got the list from another site and have yet to be successful with anything more than the Acid Bomb and the Heavy Heal.

P.S. The unidentified powders you can "throw" (use) and you'll see in your text screen what effect they have.

It's always better to identify the items if you can because if you do then Braffit and the others will pay you more. If you had identified the Pandemonium Powder from above you would have gotten more like 3000/potion from Braffit.

Besides, it gives your Mental spellcaster a chance to boost that realm by casting the spell a few times. Also - it takes longer but if you merge one potion at a time instead of 4 flash + 4 sneeze (for example) at the same time, your Alchemy specialist will increase his chances of increasing his Alchemy skill. Then you can merge the unidentified potions together (as long as they are the same type) so you only have to cast one identify spell per 5 items.

And thank YOU, Moni, for the great maps of the Retro Dungeons that you provided on Volberding's site -- it made my life a lot easier going in there with the maps since the automap is pretty much useless in them.

Thats interesting. I always assumed that the game would recognize that you combined multiple items and give you the corresponding skill increase. Oh well, in future I'll combine one by one.
BTW what was the disadvantage of having a higher alchemy level over Wiz/Psion etc. There is one but right now I cant remember

The only disadvantage would be for a Bishop.

If you are casting a spell that falls under multiple books, ie. wizardry and divinity, it will use the book with the higher skill. This also means that the book with the higher skill is the one that has the chance to improve.

It is fairly easy to work up alchemy by mixing potions/powders, but there isn't a similar way to get up wiz/psi/div, so what you probably want to do is spend points on wiz/psi/div and practice them with spells, use mixing to get your alchemy up, but make sure to keep it less than the other three, this should let your book skills rise quite quickly.
