Craig Macfarlane is my cousin. He's blind. Works as a motivational speaker and was inspiring as people in that line of work usually are. He's spoken at 3 GOP Republican conventions, to sports teams, schools, all over the place really. He is great friends with the senior George Bush and has aspirations to become a congressman and believe me he can really do anything he wants to. One thing he said to the crowd tonite that impressed me was this: That of course he wishes he could see the colours of the rainbow, that he wishes he knew what a tree looked like.. but the fact that he couldn't was not going to stop him from living his life. Being blind was just a minor inconvenience. Ah..it really helped to put what inconsequential things i would call my own problems into perspective.

Great post, Djinn. You're right about how we take things like eyesight for granted, because we've never had to live without it. Posts like yours make us realize how lucky we are. It's wonderful of your cousin to have such aspirations, despite his condition. I wish him all the luck in the world

What really got me was 'that he wishes he knew what a tree looked like'. You never really think of things like that, you know? Not knowing what a tree looks like. It really makes you think of the beauity that is in things. The beauity that you are able to see, and enjoy.

It's true GR, it really is how easy it is to take that for granted. And that's what he was all about.. so what he said! So i can't see what a tree is, yeah it sucks.. but he could still dream about it and instead of wallowing in self pity... you know.. just accept it and face adversity with positivity.
