Well, when im about to fight a really tough guy, since u usally get warned ahead of time i quick-save, and find where the guy is. I load the game back and do a sneak attack by shooting fireballs at the spot where the enemy is b4 we encountar ea. other. That way, most magic effected enemys will be hurt, the damage depending on how many mages can cast fireball, or related spells b4 the attackers come to close.
My other favorite, this one i used 1st with the wizard inside the sphere. Since he is not an enemy till he talks w/ u, set one of ur theifs on improved invisability and haste. then run in and steal their items, b4 they can talk to u, b cause they cant see u. I stole the ring of ram from the wizard, and then hurt him baddly w/ it. lol. (this stratagy wont work on monsters) Ok lets hear some of urs. |

YES! I use that too! Sometimes I use Cloudkill first, then Fireball though.

To bring some legitimacy to this thread, I offer the following advice. Potions! Don't forget about potions! I cannot count the number of times a simple gulp has saved me from serious injury or certain death. Chaotic Commands wear off your tank? Down a Potion of Clarity for needed protection until CC can be recast. Five magic missiles heading towards your weak mage? Chug a Potion of Invulnerability to shrug off those missiles. (Note, however, that mages and clerics cannot use spells from levels 1-4 under the influence of this potion.) Have a series of lethal traps you can't disarm? Gulp a Potion of Magic Shielding. Now all of your saving throws will be made automatically, even the ones with a negative modifier! Another worthwhile strategy involves an Oil of Fiery Burning and/or Potion of Explosions. Have an invisible character (a thief hiding in shadows is perfect) play front forward spotter with the party following ~15-20 paces behind, enough to keep whatever the thief sees to see them. Once the thief spots a dangerous encounter, have him/her walk all around the area, noting spellcasters and fighters. Next, have your party mages target some AoE spells around the hostile group. Web/Cloudkill can be effective, but Greater Malison first, just in case. Or, a Greater Malison/Holy Smite combo can work wonders, especially with what your thief's about to do next! Have your thief launch a Oil of Fiery Burning or Potion of Explosions into the pack, then scram! Hopefully, the spontinaity of your attack will cause some of the hostile group to flee or go berserk (yellow circle), especially if a mage Greater Malisoned them first!

Well... Web and Spider Spawn. Glitterdust is a very useful tool. Backstab while shooting a Fireball, then run away using the Boots of Speed.

I have to admit to using a lot of Zoraks tactics but to ease my conciense I use farsight or send my hidden or invisble thief ahead to spot the opponents.
Zorak, try casting insect plague, it can be hard to get off sometimes but if it works it can make a tough battle a piece of cheese; I mean cake. By the way this thread should have spoiler tags on it.
