I don't. He's the basis of almost all fantasy work today.

To put it succinctly and so that our 'younger' readers will understand it:
Tolkien ROCKS! Just had to get that out! He is the quintecential (sp?) fantasy writer. But there are some other good ones! I ought to know, I have just about every blasted fantasy book you can buy. *haha* ------------------ The day we stop learning is the day we start dying!(c) Owner/operator of the Evil Petting Zoo and devout member of the HADB clan. Commander of the Dragon Fleet, IW Peacekeeping Force Sublime Sister of the Illuminati - may the Light shine forever! Mage extraordinair. Occasional minion to Gwhanos the Fluffy Hopeless Romantic *sigh* "Allright! We'll call it a draw." |

Tolkien by far. Second best goes to either David L. McKiernan, David Eddings, or Terry Goodkind.
