Ok, so I am laying in bed asleep, and I hear my name being called by my mom, at the time I was still have asleep so I am not real sure what is going on, something about the dryer being on fire. As I get my scences I smell this awfull, choking smell and see smoke all around me. Holly crap this is serrious!

So I rush to get my clothes on and stuff and walk into in the room with the dryer, damn it was smokey in there, you could hardly breath. Anyway I get a glass of watter and pitch the watter into the dryer, doesnt really help too much, just creates more smoke, and makes it harder to breathe.

Anyway, my we got it under controll (had to turn the electricty off, unplug the dryer and take it outsider).

Pretty crazy huh?

Ouch, never throw water on an electrical fire. I'm glad you and your family are okay, IR!

That is definitely not on my top ten list of ways to wake up! Hope everyone's okay, and that the dryer is salvagable.

To echo, water on an electrical fire is not a good idea (although fresh out of bed, one's thinking cap is not always on properly).

For this reason, I have a couple of fire extinguishers around the house. Cheap things, picked up at a local convenience store, but one in the kitchen and one in the laundry room are the way to go. There are classifications of fire extinguishers -- I use an ABC class, which covers all major types of fire.

I dont think it was an electrical fire...I think it was a heat fire, or maybe too much lint in the dryer or something. But I think the electricty and wireing is fine.

But it could have been I guess, this is a pretty old house...But everythings alright now.

I had the same thing happen to me about half a decade ago, I didn't even know how to handel it, and after a number of attempts at suspending the flames they reached a bottle of brandy and I had a moltov cocktail go off in-front of me, so I basically had to call for backup, which arrived all but too late... and now I'm in another house right next door
