I installed iwd fine, but when i install heart of winter halfway through installation message asks me to insert disk 0 with file data3.cab... i tried installing again... then i uninstalled iwd and installed it again... same thing... and the presence or absence of patch for iwd doesnt change anything

and the REALLY strange thing is that i installed it 2 times already not long ago without any problems

I've had something like this once whilst trying to install HoW. It was a while ago and I'm not sure what I did to rectify it. You don't have anything running in your computer's background do you? The oddest thing can upset HoW installation, and as you say the whole lot has to go.:

ok,
I checked interplay forums and it seems a this problem is quite a common one, many people suffered from it and although some offered some help no one came with a definite solution... now some tips on solving this included turning dma off and putting 'no read ahead' in cdrom file system property, copying files from cdrom to hard disc and installing from there....

i havent tried copying files to hard disc but what i did is i remembered some year and a half ago after one of my cds broke i decided to make back up copies of all my cds... HoW was one of them... i installed the game from the back up cd and it worked....

thats it

I don't remember how I solved it either. Un-/installing seems to be a hit-and-miss affair, but as you say, it sorted itself out. Strange that.

Definately strange that it worked adn installed from your backup disk and not your main one. At least it worked out for you, but I'd be curious if there was any way to find out why one worked and the other didn't.
