Falling on Floor Laughing Travian game

A friend of mine in Jacksonville, FL. has talked me into trying the Travian game. The USX server is resetting and will start play this Friday, 13 Feb. Would you IWer's give some input about this game? Mainly, how much of a time eater is it,, and how much time does it take to do the game justice? Thanx!

Bwahaaahaaahaaa! Abandon all hope, ye who enter!

It's a lot of fun... really. However, I *do* remember playing Travian before showering in the morning... then after showering... then during breaks during the day... then before dinner... after dinner.... before bed... when getting up to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night...

It can be very time-consuming. It can also be a lot of fun. I know Felix, Johnny, and Sever played for a long time, and have played out some games. I gave up... I wanted a life again...

The good news is that you can play for a while and then quit if you feel like it.

There are also a lot of web resources that analyze things in the Travian world, like good plot spaces, competition, and so on.

What's Travian? Officially...

Quote:
Travian is a browser game featuring a world with thousands of other real players. One begins the game acting as a chief of a tiny village.
Your goal is to build a world wonder. Or seven of 'em. Or something like that. To ally with people all around the world. Attack and pillage your weaker neighbors... they deserve it. Defend against your weaker neighbors when they get stronger... the weasels.

Games are measured in months. People set up secondary forums to share strategies among their alliances. People defect from one alliance to join another. Weasels. Unless they join your alliance. Smart people.

Just say no!

Edit: Ok, some details. Travian is a cut-throat, dog-eat-dog war game, in teh cutesy guise of a friendly, wholesome browser game. If you go into with the preconception that it is casual, you will be eaten alive, and those slightly higher than you will fight over your bones. The politics mirrors the ugliest of real world politics, and it is a full time, life-altering job for those who lead a top alliance.

I just ended a server being part of a really good alliance, unfortunately our WW was at level 98 when someone else snatched victory from our grasp, if you have never played this game, you have no idea how frustrating this is. I was like "hell no, i'll never play again....only to register at the newly starting server 4 the next week. I just can't stop LOL

Oh...for those who still wanna play some harmless fun browsergames, check out The West.

Yeah, i not only love beer

The West is a Wild West roleplaying-ish type of game, at least that's how they present themselves. I also still play Tribal Wars on 6 different worlds, and have a girlfriend who needs looking after in Second Life. I've never been more busy in my life, maybe i should quit my job so i can spend more time at the PC.
