Real hard to pick a single weapon. Different ones work for different occasions.

For rapid deployment of poison (assassin)-
Firetooth (dagger) thrown - Strength bonus is counted towards THAC0 if weapon is hurled, it's plus 3, and does additional fire damage. 2-3 tosses per round unhasted = wide spread poisoning off one use of the poison skill, once you rotate targets. Over time, the total damage dealt out can add up to 12 by 6 = 72 off poison alone.
The Tuigan bow is also fast, but lacks the other advantages.

For backstabs -
I still like Celestial Fury because of the stun. It can let you escape or get a free swipe. If your THAC0 is low, the Scarlet Ninja-To (monks-only weapon- need to use the Use Anything thief skill) gives a free extra attack per round plus auto poisons. Poison is very crippling against mages.

For big dangerous critters-
The humble Flail of Ages does a reliable slow within the first couple attacks. No save. That halves the enemy's attack straight off. Not to mention the wide range of elemental damage that hurts through a stoneskin. Single handed allows a shield to be used, dropping your AC.

For Sniping-
Heartseeker! Called Shot plus Haste or Greater Whirlwind = Dead target.
Great for dragons.

For Bosskilling -
Gimme those Vorpal weapons!

For Trolls-
This is a job for ... Crom Faer! Whak- retarget, Whak - retarget, Whak-retarget..

Okay. If you were to pick any ONE, that is only ONE, weapon to go into battle with...
Let's say you are grandmaster with it, you are the right class to use it, and you cannot get any other weapon for the entire game, what will it be?

I think my favorite weapon is the Spectral Brand +5. Being able to summon a dancing sword is great. And having Negative Plane Protecction is great if you fail a save. That and its hilt looks really cool. I wish it glowed more.

After that... I think Ixil's Spike +6 is really cool. HEHE, way to incapacitate those enemies...

Blackrazor- The strength bonus, penalty to THACO, and level drain for enemies more than makes up for the fact that it is only +3.

I dual-wielded Crom Faeyr and Runehammer(upgraded) against liches/undead - kick undead butt!!

that anti-planar sword was good
- and giving Sarevok the upgraded Sword of Grief was excellent!
