BERLIN, Germany (Reuters) -- Losing his licence did not stop a drunk German driver from jumping back into his car a day later to buy more of his favorite tipple -- only to be nabbed a second time by police who this time seized the car as well.

Following a tip-off, police had stopped the 51-year-old on Monday, when a breath test showed a blood alcohol level more than 10 times over the legal limit.

"The officers could not remember ever having recorded such a high level,'' said a police spokesman in Hagen, western Germany.

The man's licence was taken away.

The next morning, the man again bought sparkling wine and drove home. Police again stopped him and recorded an even higher alcohol level -- almost double the amount considered life-threatening to most people.

"This time, the officers confiscated his car too,'' the spokesman said.

The man will be charged.

the legal limit is 0.05 in Germany so he must have had about 0.5 (alcohol poisoning start at about 0.3 for most people)

It seems, our drivers a specialists with records.

Michael Schumacher wins every Grand Prix and is now "Sportsman of the Year 2004".

Maybe this guy wanted to win the award for the highest alcohol level .
I don't know if there is a prize for the best "Drinker of the Year" ?

.05 is ridiculously low. I thought Illinois was draconian with .08. Problem is, people just don't know how to drive drunk anymore. I miss the good old days.

Bah, lots of people can't even drive sober.

Anyone see another little clip about a mexican electrician who had a few too many beers and fell asleep on a train track during some repairs? Well a train tried to stop and was blaring it's horns away at him, but ended up running over him (he was inbetween the rails in the center) and he never woke till paramedics got to him. He was surprised, but he said he couldn't remember much after the first six pack.
