Does anyone know what that broken weapon that you find in Lvl 1 of Irenicus' Dungeon is for? I went through the whole game several times and have never found a use for it. Fow that matter, what can you do with the empty potion bottles you find in the compound in which you get the Celestial Fury?

It seems there is no use for either. Perhaps they were intended to be used for a quest that was never finished .

it is commonly believed that the potion bottles were indeed to be part of some sub-quest. the broken weapon however doesnt seem to be connected to anything, so perhaps it was just a normal weapon that broke(happened all too often in bg1)

I think there are too many quests that are unfinished.

Broken Weapon first- the Broken Weapon is a carryover from BG1. Just shows you how far reaching the main villain's plots went.
As to the potion bottles... Minor SPOILERs on some characters' quests and other quests * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * It's commonly believed that they were supposed to be part of an anti-slaver mega-quest. It would've included a Haer'daelis quest, Nalia's personal quest (both of which would've had to do/have to do with slavers), the Guarded Compound where the bottles are found (they're the slave lords), the Twisted Rune, the Skinner Murders (which include Rune Assassins), and possibly the Buried Alive quest and Jan's quest too. However, they never finished it, so you can't really see it. |

Another hypothesis about the broken sword: The broken sword seems to be an expired magical weapon created by the Enchanted Weapon spell. At least, both the icons and the description screens agree. Perhaps, a wrong item ID in the game files? This would mean a minor bug. Harmless. Remedy: ingore the sword.

The sword isn't always broken, it seems it's a weapon left of the times of the Iron-Crisis.
The Baldurdash-Fix provides some missing links to the slave lords' quest. Doesn't have Haer'Dalis an own quest? I thought so... |
