A good friend of mine was going through some old software he had stored and came across several games he bought, but never installed on his PC. Now he is wondering which games are worth the time to install and which ones would be a waste of time. I'm familiar with some of the titles, but not all of them...so I need your help.
Please rate any of the games you are familiar with from 1-10 (with 10 being GREAT and 1 being "throw away ASAP"). Any comments you have of why the game rocks (or sucks) would also be helpful. Thanks for your help. The games he has are: 01) Quake 02) Quake II 03) Quake III Arena 04) Thief II 05) 5 "Sim" Titles, i.e., City, Copter, Safari, Isle, and Tower 06) Deus Ex 07) MDK 2 08) Unreal Tournament 09) Soldier of Fortune: Gold Edition 10) Star Trek: Birth of the Federation 11) Asteroids 3D 12) Wing Commander: Privateer 13) Railroad Tycoon II 14) Redneck Rampage Rides Again! (Arkansas) 15) Mech Warrior 2 16) Spec Ops: Platinum Collection. It includes: 16a) Spec Ops: Rangers Lead the Way 16b) Spec Ops: Ranger Team Brave, expansion pack 16c) Spec Ops II: Green Berets 16d) Spec Ops: Operation Bravo, expansion pack

Sorry I'm being so picky-choosey here, but from what I gather about MDK2, it has a lot in common with MDK. From what I have experienced about MDK, it's a good game but too short. There were five levels I think. (2)
However, what I do know of the Quake games is that they're relatively good. I'm not much of a FPS fan, but these had some geniune gameplay. Unreal falls under this category as well. (7) And lastly, if the MW2 is what I think it is, it's nothing to hold on to. That game is so far outdated that you'll be lucky if you can find a computer to run it properly. I think that was one of the first computer games I was introduced to (1) |

From my experience, Deus Ex (yes yes), Quake 1, Star Trek and Spec Ops are mediocre.. Sim City is okay, but the rest I haven´t tried.

If you want a cheap, and more recent might I say, Mech Warrior-type game, I'd advise you look up Heavy Gear. This was one awesome game. Some others include all the Mech Commanders, great games as well.

I really like Unreal Tournament, it used to be my favorite FPS game, but now, I like Return to Castle Wolfenstein better because of the strategy element added to the multiplayer game (the classes). I would give UT a 7 or 8.
I have Quake III Arena, but I didn't like it as much as UT, I found the weapons to be clumsy, among other things. I would give it a 5 at max. Personally, I didn't play Deus Ex, but I heard lots of good things about it. I know if I see it for sale cheap, I'll buy it. As for Thief II, I didn't play it, but I played Thief 1 a little, and it seemed good.

Wing Commander: Privateer is very good game to try for space simulation fans. I downloaded the game from HOTU and it was fun playing the game again after so many years. if you are playing this game, you ought to get the expansion pack Righteous Fire too.
Note that there are some cheat editors out there which makes the game damn too easy to play but still fun...nothing short of a god flying a (modified) Centurion heavy fighter gunning down everything in sight.

I myself like QIII and UT a lot, but on Dues X I was very dissapointed, although many other people loved the game, so it could be just me

I like Unreal Tournament a lot. Didn't play Quake III Arena that much, but it looked okay, I guess. Sim City is of course uber-cool
