Hi KAR_MOD1!

Sorry to hear about the cursor problems - not sure what would be causing that.
You might want to cross post to Saz' Help Desk thread and include all the basic information about your computer set up, hardware, OS, memory, version of DirectX etc. Hopefully that will give someone a clue to help you out.

probably has to do with the new transparent snazzy icons in Windows XP. (I forgot what they call that affect, but I believe it can be turned off in the settings somewhere) I know that mostly applies to the start menu icons but mouse cursors are just icons also, but associated with mouse functions.

I have same problem. But I run Windows 98 so I think it's not XP's sin.
I noticed that trashing occurs only when all screen is static. Any local animation or other image changes remove all garbage.
I suppose that such behavior can be possible caused by unexpected optimization code of DirectX 8.0 which could skip some update cycles in case of static image.
Could I easily downgrade DirectX to version 7, I'd check it.

Actually, you can downgrade DX8 to DX7. You're not the first person who has seen DX8 cause more problems than good. I came across one time a patch, basically it resets some registry keys and might even delete some DX files to fool Windows into thinking DirectX is not installed or has an older version installed. That way you can run a DX7 install and it will go smooth (normally, any DX install only looks for UPDATED components, and if your system is already up-to-date, you can't go back). So it's just a matter of fooling Windows, which is usually pretty easy to do if you take the time to play around with it enough.

Another alternative could be to UPgrade to DX8.1 (just recently came out). in this new version, they might have fixed the bugs that 8.0 had. who knows! i'd also try updating your video card drivers as well.

I checked DX7. Same thing...
Maybe hardware? I use RivaTNT2 Ultra on AMD750 chipset with Athlon.
KAR_MOD1: what are yours?
