quote: Well I actually believe it is human nature to want whatever you can't have.... all the people in school want to leave and get a job while the ones that do work wish they were back behind their desks. I am not trying to say that either one is harder than the other - just that school life should certainly not be classified as particularly easy, or underestimated in general. |

Well, I may be a lone voice here, but I can avow that I have been out of school (state-mandated school, that is) for 21 years now, and I've never missed it, not once. I can also state that 95% of what I learned in there was absolute garbage, and certainly has no bearing upon what I do today, regardless of the propaganda they try to feed you when you're in school about how this is "preparing you for life." Well, if it's preparing you for the BS that life hands you, then that's correct...otherwise, it's a crock.

quote: I take it you're talking about Algebra? a squared, +b squared= c squared Why on earth would I need that in real life? Of course if we were all rocket scientists or astronauts it might be a different story.

quote: The thing about school compared to work but (and note that I've never had a job in my life ) is that at school, however many hours you go, you're not actually doing a hell of a lot. At least we didn't at my school. I mean, most classes I had were listening to a teacher, doing maths problems or something, or researching for assignments. Not exactly back-breaking work. I'll always remember our physics teacher showing us how to read a form guide . In a real job you're actually doing real work most of the day.
