ranger lv5
fighter lv5
cleric lv5
mage lv4
thief lv5
my fighters seem to get ripped apart by so many lizard men. i hav my mage cast things like stinking cloud and horror and burning hands and magic missile and my cleric casting curse, but they still seem to rip me up? wot do i do?
i thought i'd got used to the transaction from BG2 to Icewind Dale and BG1, but obviously not.

the mage spell web is the most effective as creatures cought in a web is hit automaticly.

A tactic to use against melee-monsters: Give one character all the best protective gear and have him run around, while the rest stand back and use missile weapons.

Personally I always play on insane difficulty - The monsters do hit for double damage, but also give double xp. Definately worth it - (if you can survive )

lizardmen are pretty easy compared to the lower level groups you get, just draw them out a few at a time, dont wade into the whole group, and if you dont have web then use the normal circle tactic (one man draws all the enemies and runs in circles whilst the party uses magic and missiles to pick them off)

You are at a good level. IWD combat is tougher than the BG series. Concentrate all your characters on one at a time. Use your mage spells like magic missels against the healers. Summon spells will help as well, if you were using a druid thay would be able to cast bettles which use acid and paralize them. But any summon spells would be helpful.

Try adding some protective / defensive spells like protection from evil 10' radius, prayer, bless, and aid in addition to the web spell. Grease is also very effective in slowing down the lizardmen. Swap out the magic missiles for chromatic orb. If there is a lizardman shaman in the group target him with ranged weapons and take him down first. Also, look for "choke points" where the monsters must funnel through a narrow opening to get to you. Block the choke point with your two best fighters and take the baddies on one at a time. Use the rest of the party to support with spells or ranged weapons.

Its a shame that you don't have a druid. Entangle+Spike Growth=unpleasantness!

Draw them out with one character so that you stop them at the narrowest point - Micah's "choke points". Use Web to hold them in place, and let loose with Fireball, Stinking Cloud etc, nice area effects that upset the shamans too. Smack the spell casters with missile weapons to disrupt enemy spells. Make sure that the cleric is there on hand to heal, and have another Web ready just in case.

You'll figure it out, as it can take a little while for the right combinations in the right places to become apparent. Good luck.
