Is anyone running this game with DX9 installed? I am about to install it for another game, but I don't want to mess up my BG2 install.

It works fine for me under winXP with DX9. Your mileage may vary though, directX compatability is one of the more irritating problems to face because it can effect one person and not another.

DX9 is more likely to cause problems with specific graphics cards, rather than with Baldurs Gate imparticular. In general, as long as your graphics card works fine at the moment, updating to DX 9 is unlikely to cause too many problems.

If you have system backup/restore settings software, use it. Norton utilities has some good recovery software, and you should ideally use this as a precaution.

Anyhow, good luck with the update and let us know how you get on.

Thanks for the replies! I'm going to try it because my current setup is pretty rock solid. From what you are saying, I hope to have no problems.

My card is a Radeon 8500LE, which should be compatible with DX9, but does not have DX9 capabilities. From what I understand, the DX9 commands should just be ignored. This leaves me wondering why the game requires DX9 if my card can't deliver it (my card is listed as the minimum required).

I'll keep you posted, but first I'll backup!

because they did it so those of us who do have cards that support dx9 have been chomping at the bits to play a game using it. and it wouldn't be nice to publish a game that only supports 2 or 3 video cards, now would it?

anyway, like you say, your card doesn't support it, so you'll have a good gaming experience, i'm sure, just without the full set of bells and whistles.

*wondering what game is out now that supports dx9*
