I seriously hate webcams. My sisters think it's fun to go webcamming with everybody who's online in msn. We're sharing like a 500kb/s internet connection and I don't get like 20kb/s One was even puzzled why her own internet was slow with 10 webcams on. Anybody else have touble with this kind of thing. Also does anybody if I can get a bandwith limiter for this or do I have to run a special server/router for that.

if it's in a network then get a proxy, and you can basically limit how much bandwith is used...i know..since that's what i'm in, my bandwidth is limited..

If you're using a hub to split the incoming signal, you could replace it with a switch. The hub takes an incoming packet & sends it back out all other ports. It gets to the intended user -- and everybody else. Heavy traffic from one user slows everybody down. The switch directs traffic only to the intended user so others on the network don't get bogged down.

A proxy server as in relaying all traffic through on PC and then use a program there. I don't think that's an option.
VulcanRider it doesn't slow down my internet it completely hogs up all the bandwith we have. I don't get a continuous 20kb/s from the 500kb/s we can get. I think this is because of all the webcam video being sent and received. |

Why don't you explain this to her, and agree on something. If she doesn't comply the simple solution is to "lose" her webcam, in the best way you see fit.

I would just break her computer with a sledgehammer, then follow up with her trachea.

Well I tried making a deal. One of them keeps the lowest number already like 2 to 3 which shouldn't be too bad. The other claims I download so much she is always slowed down by me
I update my linux every day which takes 5 minutes at most while she isn't on, and I stream 20kb/s internet radio. Nothing I'd slow her down with, but well. Looks like they're using it less now anyway |
