I was looking over the proficiencies of Minsc and Keldorn and it appears that, for his level, Minsc has 2 more proficiencies than he is supposed to. Did Black Isle change the rules for imported characters? Or was there something in Baldur's Gate or BG II that somehow allowed Minsc these extra two??

I mean, when I start a new ranger, his proficiency points are correct. I don't have the book in front of me but it should be 4 + 1 for every three levels. Thus, a 16 lvl guy should have 9 points. But Minsc had 11. For Keldorn it was the opposite, he had two fewer than he should have had.

Now I'm wondering if I used an editor aeons ago to alter them.

Anyway, this is bugging me. I think I'm going to use Shadowkeeper to "fix" these proficiency things.

Rangers are supposed to have 2 proficiencies automatically in dual wielding. You are right about having the proper number to assign, it is in addition to the dual wield. I am not sure about all the kits, though. BTW - rangers can put a 3d prof. in dual wield.

OK. That explains the extra two. Thanks. I was trying to remember if I had read somewhere that rangers would get extra stuff because they couldn't dual-wield back in the original Baldur's Gate.

But I'm still trying to figure out why a 20th level Inquisitor only has 8 proficiency points. Seems he should have 10. 4 + 6 for 18 levels.

Also, why when I create a new ranger...who appears at level 16...he only has 9 proficiency points (4+ 5 for 15 levels). Shouldn't he have the extra two as well? Wait...maybe I'm just thinking of the points to assign; I didn't check to see if two were already applied to the 2-weap skill.
