Hmm it's hard to compare. Obviously HOMM3 had far better AI than HOMM2 but 4 is quite different and more complex so it is slightly unfair to make a direct comparison. However I would say that the combat AI is not amazing . It often doesn't go for your most damaging unit (which I think it should take out first)... I haven't fought enough spellcaster heroes yet to tell you about how intelligent spellcasting is...

I bought MM9 as well and have yet to even look at it, but from all I have been hearing (this included) im starting to worry about it. Of couse the fact that they fired the people who made the game BEFORE they had a chance to make patches or even have many people get into the game is also cause for worry
M&M IX stinketh bad, MagiK. Reeeeal bad. They didn't even complete some quests in the game, just to get it out the door. There was one promotions quest that asks you to get a lock of the hair of a witch. She's right inside a cave nearby, and the lock of hair is on a stool next to her. She doesn't even fight back if you attack her.

It really feels...ordinary, next to the entire earlier series. Real shame, too. Van Caneghem's name isn't even in the dev team listings inside the game. Sounds like this one was done above his objections.

And a few days after it was released, they fired 3/4th of the dev team.
Yeah I read about the firings, they also fired most of the Heroes 4 team too...so don't hold your breath for patches Geez, first Ultima 9 was stinkerooo and they fire everyone who made the series of games great, The Wizardry series is no more, now the Might and Magic series is toasted too seems like all the old RPG franchises are being systematicly destroyed
