Ok, there'll be some spoilers here so if you don't want to know about the Ice Temple, don't read this thread!

----------

spoilers below

---------------

I have got my party through the first floor and down to the lower one. We've fought Oria and gotten into ALL the rooms except the ones in the northeast central section. One has a secret door saying "EMBRACE THE SHADOW" and the other door (only one I can find!) says the lock is iced and you can see a plant. Beyond that one is a room I find no outside door to that has veins in the corner..... I've used the crystal gizmo to make the lightning and accessed a few rooms that way, but having gone through all the settings a number of times, I just can't seem to get the doors open to the above mentioned rooms! HELP!

Also, there is some way to use that device to unlock the floor area of the altar on the floor above (where we fight the baddie who is enthralling the ice demons on the first floor). Any help on these things is greatly appreciated.

A minor thing is that I don't quite follow the Battle Squares Game. I've had two characters manage to finish with 3 squares, but I gather there's more than one rank per level or level per rank?

I believe the answer lies in the responses you give at the magical stairway. Each answer creates a portal to a different location (including the inaccesible rooms downstairs)...

Choosing different options at the stair will teleport you to the "locked" areas. You will need to teleport to the shadow room and then use the lightning machine to open it completely. Save your game before teleporting, some ports take you FAR away.

Then altar spins, and unlock certain areas Left-North,Right-North to open the doors, can't think of other combos at the moment ....

There is a whole lot more to the BattleSquare! There are quite a few posts on this already. The whole thing is 250 battles! I didn't do that many ....

Hope this helps Cloudy!

Oswulf and Nightstalker, THANKS for taking the time to answer me here!

I'll try the stairs again [img]smile.gif[/img] As for that pesky Battle squares game...sigh..guess I'll go look for more posts on the subject. It's a bit complex and I don't think it makes note anywhere of the levels you've achieved. I know my two fighters have each passed a few times, with three squares, no options to take more. So I KNOW I have a lot to learn about it! Wish the search function worked!

Cloudy, here's a little more info. on the battle square.

To complete a level you must obtain 3 consecutive squares in 5 different combinations:
1. 3 consecutive squares
2. 3 consecutive quares plus 1 additional squares [total of 4]
3. 3 consecutive quares plus 2 additional squares [total of 5]
4. 3 consecutive quares plus 3 additional squares [total of 6]
5. 3 consecutive quares plus 4 additional squares [total of 7]

Once you do this you will be told by the crystal golem that you've completed that particular level on the battle square challenge. Upon your completion of one level you'll receive the key to the chambers of the 3rd priestess of Auril. Any additional levels of the battle square are optional in terms of your doing them.

I hope this is helpful.

Cyril, that's great info! One thing that baffles me, though is HOW to tell the machine that I want to attain more than three squares! Every time I choose Battle squares and mode activated I get only 3 tries and the Golem tells me it's over when I make 3 in a row, which my Paladin and my Barbarian have both done several times now! Cloudy, you do not have to tell the machine anything. Once you make 3 in a row that round of the game is over. In order to do the other permutations you have to capture the extra squares before connecting 3 of them in a row.

Cloudy think like this for the Squares ... O = empty square, X= marked square. #=order of fight

for three - one solution

O O O .-. O O O
X X X .-. 1 2 3
O O O .-. O O O

for four

X O O .-. 1 O O
X X X .-. 2 3 4
O O O .-. O O O

5
X O X .-. 1 O 2
X X X .-. 3 4 5
O O O .-. O O O

ect. ect.

Just plan your square selection so that the last battle you fight completes the 3rd in a row.
