I'm thinking about it, but won't it make it harder on you against a group of enemies?

Possibly in the beginning, but remember, you're level is six times higher than with a full party.

Well solo at times can be a challenge but at higher levels this kind of balances things out. I even with a six person party I never run into a huge group of badies. Play smart with a solo PC and it will be easy.

Ive just started my first solo attempt and I think the hardest fights are against enemies with a disabling attack eg hold, stun etc. Getting 1 person frozen in a group of 6 doesnt wprry me much. but when your only character is frozen solid while ghasts etc steadily pound you to death...
EDIT: I should say, however, that it makes the game VERY different, and is really quite interesting and entertaining. It opens a whole new world of tactical posibilities and forces you to think of things you never considered [ 01-06-2003, 11:16 AM: Message edited by: karlosovic ]

For a player who knows the game inside out, soloing can actually be considered easier.
I've tried soloing a couple of times, but i always come back to party games. Interactions, dialogues, micromanagement, group tactics - i just can't play BG2 without these. [ 01-06-2003, 11:37 AM: Message edited by: Alson ] |

It can be a lot easier - especially some of the set piece battles. Think defensively - you've only got 1 person to protect which makes potions/scrolls a lot more useful.
The best thing about solo-ing is just quite how much you can learn about the abilities of a single class. I never use my mages to their full capability, so my next solo will be a magic user (I like the idea of a bard) which should give me a better idea of quite what they can do. |

I agree w/ baros, it's great to learn one class. my solo sorcerer is nasty. the most annoying thing for me is domination, if you get dominated your dead. very annoying.

I tend to agree with Alson about solo-ing actually being easier most of the time. When it's Just You (particularly, as you said, if you know what's coming) & you are generally a much higher level than you are "supposed to be" at that point in the game, it's so easy to prepare / hit / run / Sunfire / Whirlwind / Backstab / whatever. When you have a party to worry about, the tactics are so much more interesting, IMO.
Even if you know what's coming, protecting Aerie / Imoen / Edwin / whoever is a major tactical consideration which I consider much more enjoyable to deal with than if I know that all I have to concentrate on is getting ME out of harm's way (which is generally pretty easy). - Imrahil |

The encounters that spring to mind are such as Bodhi's lair, or any of the Liches (especially Kangaxx) - a scroll of protection against undead or magic will see you through - something that just isn't possible with a party. You can also keep your entire party invisible most of the time to avoid encounters you don't like.
In many cases Soloing can be too easy - you have to restrict yourself and try to play fair. |
