LB, I never woulda thought you were a bandie! So am I! *hugs* It's hard to tell, isn't it? That's why it boils me that we're shunned by the populars; we're not so different, really, we just strive to succeed a lot more (and happen to have musical ability ). Hey, what to you play anyhow? I'm on trumpet, myself, both concert and jazz bands. I like concert a lot more, it gives me a better chance for smooth, slow pieces, which I really like. But on the other hand, jazz band lets me play solos and get noticed. I think I've found a few new friends!

Band Geeks are everywhere...played Trombone from 5th grade through my senior year of college - still get gigs every once and a while....

I think so!
I was never in band but some of my best friends were and I even dated a guy in band (who happened to be a terrific dancer and actor as well woohoo!) if that helps LOL!

Popularity contests end when you all graduate...it is then that everyone miraculously turns into just people lol...and it is usually the popular snobs that end up having the worst lives...just wait til your ten and twenty year reunions and you'll see exactly what I mean.
I did not attend my twenty year reunion but I did get pics...all those bleach blonde snobby and "holier than thou" cheerleader types were old, overweight, and looked like they carried the misery of the world in their eyes...I did not recognize any one of them without a list of who everyone was and where they were standing to help me out. I can't say they would not have treated me just as bad after twenty years though...with the exception of some gray hair and a few new wrinkles, I haven't changed a bit since I was 16.

Heheh, I love thinking about what my high school reunion will look like. One of my favorite sayings is, "See that bald guy with the pot belly and weird mole on his forehead? He was captain of the football team. And the really good-looking guy in the expensive suit? President of the AV club." It probably doesn't always work out like that, but from what you just said Moni I'd say it gets pretty close. I'm sure they would've loved to see you and compare... the good, nice people are usually the ones who turn out with the least lines. It's all a part of karma...

ROFL, that's exactly how it was with the guys too...the biggest nerd in school is running the internet service used by people in 5 counties and the captain of the football team couldn't attend...he was in jail for too many tickets for public intoxication.

I am glad I didn't go though really...it was hard enough for me in school and to have to see it all happen all over again would have made me feel even sorrier for them than I did by just seeing their pictures.

Honestly, I wasn't particularly nice in school...I could be pretty mean at times actually, but when I was I had to be in order to maintain my sense of self...(sounds weird maybe but that is where most of my trouble came...from not being who or what others wanted me to be)...I did not fit in with the geeks or the popular crowd but I had a few friends in both groups and was set apart socially for not completely blending in with one or the other...those who remember me fondly remember me for who I was, and for the fact that I was consistent at being me LOL. Ah, kind of a drifter, eh? That's kind of how I am. I don't really fit in with any particular group, but I have friends with both sides (though I tend more toward my nerdy side ). That's the beauty of being a punk, you get to stand out to both crowds! Lately I've accomplished this with a 26-spike jacket and my Santa hat. Honestly I probably won't even go to one of my reunions should I survive long enough, I'll be too busy to show off to them. Chances are they'd probably treat me like crap again though, which is fine with me since I'd be frickin rich!

And even if you weren't fondly remembered by that crowd, this crowd will remember you quite well!

Very much a drifter lol! I'd have gotten my a$$ kicked had I showed up in a spiked jacket and Santa Hat LOL but as it was, I wore a denim jacket or a black suede jacket, blue jeans, black T-shirts, silver chains and tall black boots (with silver chains around the heels and ankles LOL) when all the girls, geeks and cheerleaders alike were into polyester slacks (hurl), curling irons and way too much make up. I was more of a nerd myself...before I gave up on school and left home, I appreciated making good grades and actually learning things above worrying about where the next party would be and who could get the most wasted and live through it. It just wasn't the right community for me though so I finished growing up (lol) in another state and on my own.

If you do end up with the time and live close enough then I would say "Go!" but then, if you do live close enough what's the point? LOL
I would have to have travelled some 1800 miles...it wasn't worth the trip knowing that even though we had all grown up, very few people had changed their attitudes and the people I was closest to weren't going to be there for the same reasons I stayed home that weekend.

The IW crowd will never forget me huh? I don't know if that is a good thing or a bad thing! j/k

Well, I have to hit the hay...school starts at 8 and I have to be there.

Looks like I'm a little late to post here and everyone has said just about everything I am thinking to say but oh well

I TOTALLY understand about DnD. My parents have told me since I was little that it was satanic and evil and that if I was ever found playing it I'd "be in big trouble!" This programming of my mind is the reason I very nearly didn't start playing. I'd been talking to a friend of mine who had played for some years about DnD on a regular basis but I didn't play. Stupid parental over protective unrealistic mental shaping... NEways, one of these times I was talking to him he said "You should play." I had a moral debate for a couple of weeks until I decided what the hell, I'll see what it's all about. I've been playing for over 3 years now and my parents STILL have no clue. I even have a DMG hidden between my mattress and boxspring (better than some things that could be there )

I can also relate with the internet thing in a small way. While both of my parents also have internet friends, and thus they can relate somewhat, they couldn't understand at all (or only slightly) when I found a girl I REALLY liked on the internet. Sure that only lasted 3 1/2 months but it still happened and it was just as real as anything that could possibly happen in RL. Hell, for whatever reason, I've never had a g/f in RL.

Ok, off of me back to you LOL. I'm afraid I'm going to have to insert the keypoint of my "pity post" here, lol. I really do understand everything you're going through and just remember that, while your personal life may not be that great (or you may even say it sucks if you really want to but I won't) , you've got a lot of friends here at IW.

-Jonathan R. Schwartzbauer (and NO I'm not going to tell you my middle name )

Ah, well in my book that would be a good thing Moni!

And Joneleth, good job keeping it from your parents. A member of my group is doing the exact same thing with his mom, it's really quite funny... I personally hide all my DnD stuff in my school binder, since mom learned long ago never to look in there.

Well, it's about time for me to get to bed too. G'night!
