YES! YES! YES! YES!

I did it! I did it with a solo Cavalier! MuhWahHAHAHAHA!!!!

*collapses and curls up into a ball*

So... so... hard... ...

It was so surreal... just my Cavalier and a Deva, versus Improved Demogorgan and all his demons... I lost count of how many times I had to reload... this was how I finally defeated him... ...

*sits upright*

I used cheese, bravado and maniacal disregard for self-preservation. I fought on Core difficulty and against the Improved Demogorgan patch.

My winning weapon setup was the Purifier +4, and the Sentinel Shield, I could not use Carsomyr, the AC loss was too terrible and Demogorgan seemed to be immuned to Crom Faeyr... ...

Equipment wise, I had to wear the Ring of Free Action, Symbols of Stunning were flying through the air like popcorn or something, I died the first time round because I got stunned, so I replaced my Ring of Earth Control with the Ring of Free Action instead.

I casted Armour of Faith, summoned a Deva, Draw Upon Holy Might and Hardiness in that order respectively. I got the Deva to cast Globe of Blades as well and casted Protection from Evil on each other.

Buffed up, we rushed forward and Demogorgan appeared, immediately casted Time Stop and summoned demons left and right. I purposely sent the Deva forward so that Demogorgan would concentrate all his efforts on her, when the Time Stop ran out, I quickly casted Whirlwind and hacked as fast as I could on the demons.

The Deva died from Demogorgan just as most of the demons fell as well and it was down to my Cavalier versus Demogorgan and a Balor.

This was the frustrating part... I swear Demogorgan has infinite Stoneskins or something... I get one, two whacks in, he casts another Stoneskin... it was not long before I ran out of Whirlwinds... ...

It was futile to fight him one on one without Whirlwinds so I ran up the stairs, luring both Demogorgan and the Balor( whom I had allowed to hit on me for free...). Demogorgan then paused to cast Implosion and I managed to get out of his sight.

The Balor naturally chased after me and I managed to kill him with little difficulty.

Now comes the cheesy part... I rested... why yes! You can rest when there are no visible enemies, and the only way I could win now was to rest and regain back my Whirlwinds... ...

8 hours later... ... You would think Demogorgan would kill me while I am sleeping... ...

Fully recharged, I casted the usual buffing up spells and summoned another Deva. I knew Demogorgan was at the head of the stairs, so I went up the stairs with the intention of using Demogorgan himself as a blocker in case he summons any more demons. My Deva had Globe of Blades on and once again, served as a distraction, I blatantly ignored the Globe of Blades and Whirlwinded next to the Deva, it was do or die now.

As expected, Demogorgan summoned a Marilith, but he blocked her from attacking us like a charm. Each round Demogorgan casted another spell, was another round for me to Whirlwind him, I got him to injured... then badly injured... then near death... and finally... ...

Ahhhh... sweet, sweet victory... I made sushi out the Marilith after Demogorgan fell.

YEAH! Now I can say I soloed Improved Demogorgan!

Thanks for reading!

I posted it here because if I recall correctly, Jim, another boardie, wanted to see how I defeat Improved Demogorgan with a solo Cavalier, so I am posting here for his benefit.

I am so stinking happy!

Post your Maze problem on the ToB Forum, I will try my best to solve your problem.

Congratulations, Dundee. Well done! I'll move this to the ToB forum (even though I know you did it while playing through the SoA part, it really does belong in ToB as people who don't have ToB would not have Watchers Keep).

Jim can follow the link I'm posting below to this post in the ToB forum, and I'll keep this locked in this forum.

Good on you!

Moved here.

Congratulations, that sure sounded like quite a struggle!! I think that Watcher's Keep was made with cavaliers in mind with all the #$%^&*! demons

I was very tempted to take the easy way out and cast the Scroll of Sealing, but I guess doggone stubborness eventually paid off.

Heh, the second hardest fight I had was against the Chromatic Demon, I swear that thing has 95% damage resistance or something, I was only dealing 2-5 damage with Crom Faeyr... but at least I did not need to reload.

The Dragons on the other hand... were laughable... ... I was immuned to their Fire and Poison.

Heck, I got so much Fire Resistance, Fire Damage heals me.

To exit the Maze, you need 3 Red Gems and a Scepter. The Scepter, is found at Yakman's tent, along with a Journal which contains instructions on how to get out of the Maze.

Follow the instructions in the book until you come across a blue Slayer-looking demon. You can either work for it( assuming it allows you to) or fight it, either way, it ends up going hostile and when you defeat it, it drops one of the Red Gems.

If you can work for it, your reward is a Thief Cloak.

Proceed to wander aimlessly in the maze and try all the portals, until you reach a Dead-Magic room,

The walls are blue.

defeat the Slayer and demons in it and go to the west( left) portal. You will now encounter another demon group led by a Tanarii. Defeat them to obtain a second Red Gem.

Now go back to the beginning of the Maze and follow the instructions in the Journal and exit the Maze, you will meet a gambling Cambion.

You might want to save first before gambling with him.

There are three rounds to be played, try to win the first two rounds( 25% chance) to get an item and a Scroll of Wish and lots of Xp. Reload if you fail the gamble.

For the third round, gamble for the gem, you will always lose, but try to get Emperor, it confers a permanent beneficial reward on the person gambling with the Cambion.

I had +1 WIS with my Necromancer, and Mind Shield for my Cavalier.

Even though you lose, allow the Cambion to take the exit out, he will return the Vigil Stone to you in the end and you gain the last Red Gem as well, which fixes the Scepter and allowing you entry to the next level.

Hopes this helps.

great work Dundee! that must have been one hell of a fight.
for me defeating him with a kensai/mage was quite challanging, I can hardly imagine trying to take him on withou any mage spells
I'm looking forward to reading your post on how you defeated Improved Abazigal and Balthazar

p.s. if you're still in SoA, you might want to consider getting Vhailor's Helm. might make those super tough fights just a weeee bit easier.

Well done Dundee laddie, knew you'd do it. Damn the game has some nice AI, but resting in the same room as the demon - you'd think the highly intelligent fella would get you! Bet your Cavalier didn't have the best nights sleep in the world either!

I'm just entering watchers keep with my solo fighter/thief/mage, but hats off to you for not using thieving/mage abilities.

I propose your next challenge....defeat improved Yagura Shura with your solo cavalier!!! That geezer has 99% to all forms of physical damage and has some tough allies (he also has over 400 HP, which means you'll need to hit him over 400 times!!...Doh). I reckon it will prove more difficult and frustrating than the Demogorgon battle. I struggled with my hardened party of 6 last time round. Let us know.....
