I just saw this link in Penny Arcade. It's interesting for anyone interested in the RIAA and piracy debate:
Blame Canada I'm not posting this on the other RIAA thread as it's over 100 posts already. What do you guys think of this?

Hehe, I heard about this. Kind of fun to be immune. Wasn't there sort of the same thing, in KaZaa, because it was out of a foreign country, the RIAA had no jurisdiction and couldn't shut it down. Maybe now they'll actually have to think of creative and intelligent solutions.

From what I heard, the best country a company could go yo is Russia. They seem to have very little laws over there. [ 09-13-2003, 03:45 AM: Message edited by: Luvian ]

Probably a repost, but oh well...
Here's one of RIAA's new promotion movies. And yes, I'm in a bit of a childish mood this morning. edit: let me add a disclaimer that it contains some cheap movie effects involving a large amount of blood and violence. [ 09-13-2003, 06:04 AM: Message edited by: Grojlach ]

"except for canada" also scince the RIAA arnt a government body, how do they have the rights to search your home? as far as im aware thats trespassing. i thought only american police could search, and even then i thought they needed a warrant. [ 09-13-2003, 06:03 AM: Message edited by: Zero Alpha ]

Yeah!
Canada will save us all! It's no wonder they have a higher life-expectancy rate! Their smarter than us! I have always loved our Northern Brethren. [ 09-13-2003, 08:38 AM: Message edited by: Larry_OHF ]

The RIAA has computers that download songs from your computer and they use the download to get your IP address and then they get your real address from your ISP. I believe people have tried the invasion of privacy route wrt to the ISP (giving away your personal data) to no avail. The fact that you share gives them proof you have stolen goods in your home so i guess they can easily get a warrant to search your home. They do it to take your computer away.
Is it actually true that we lucky people here in Canada don't have to worry? If I say take a trip over the border could I get arrested? |

I must say that's a whole lot more sane approach than what's in place in the US... a nominal charge on the media and everyone's happy.
BTW, Larry, they're also our Southern brethren, at least if you look from Detroit...
