Okay, I'm now playing a palidin. I started with 1 attack with fists. I'm suppose to get an extra attack at lvl 7, then with specialization in a melee weapon 2H sword, I'm suppose to get 3/2 attacks. All that to me says 7/2 attacks when 2H sword is equiped. I only have 2 attacks with 2H sword equiped a lvl8. What gives? Is this another BG II bug? How does one add up their number of attacks anyway?

I says *pardon*. Desuma_Malevois, from your description is sounds like at Lvl 7 I gain a 1/2 attack, giving me 3 attacks in 2 rounds, but the manual states, "Note that this refers to attacks with melee weapons only, and that Fighters, Rangers, and Paladins also gain an extra attack at level 7." Quoted from pg93 BG manual. I have installed the patch that set weapon skills to the way it was in BG.
Other question. In the proficiency chart, attacks per round column, for instance, specialization in 2H swords (2points in 2H swords) it says 3/2 attacks per round. Is this stating the number of attacks added to my current number of attacks, or stating the total number of attacks I'll have? Also does the speed factor of the weapon play a part in the number of attacks you'll have? If so, how? [This message has been edited by Shangoman (edited 06-15-2001).] |

Attacks per round pre-mastery patch and after mastery patch.
Looking at the Specialization chart on page 101, one might get the idea that the proficiency system was completely nerfed from BG. Well it was only partly nerfed. Here is the accurate chart: points spent to hit bonus damage bonus attacks 1 (Proficient) 0 0 1 2 (Specialized) +1 +2 3/2 3 (Master) +2 +2 3/2 4 (High Master)* +2 +3 3/2 5 (Grand Master) +2 +4 3/2 * Improves weapon speed. This gives you an extra +1 damage at High Master. Although if you installed TeamBG's weapon specialization "fix" it will restore this chart to what it was in BG: points spent to hit bonus damage bonus attacks 1 (Proficient) 0 0 1 2 (Specialized) +1 +2 3/2 3 (Master) +3 +3 3/2 4 (High Master) +3 +4 3/2 5 (Grand Master) +3 +5 2 I hope it helps. ------------------ It's bleedin dark down here, slippery too. Man, that's a pisser. |

The manual has several mistakes in it. BG2 is based mostly upon 2nd ed. D&D rules and what I stated was basically the way they work. In your 2nd paragraph, the 3/2 is the total number of attacks you would have at lower levels, although you gain more attacks at higher levels - like the level your character starts out at. The speed factor only determines the order in which the weapons would normally strike. |

Manual is rubbish.
You should also see IWD's manual...it's a laugh. They tried to copy bits from BG1 and IWD but muddled the index....missed out the weapons. |
