I'm of the opinion that there was a LOT of bad music back in the day from what I've heard. IMO standards have increased. But thats just it, it's my opinion, and you know what they're like... |

You really think so Sigmar? I find every fool with an instrument or synthysizer can cut a record today. I can't think of any new bands that are any good. But I'm open to suggestion! Don't suggest the heavy stuff though, it's not my style. Right now I have Rush, Yes, and Genesis in the car.
Oh, and we're starting our DnD campaign tomorrow. I'm playing a Halfing Bard. So if you know any good songs or fantasy type stories I can use, I'd really appreciate them. [ 12-18-2004, 08:13 AM: Message edited by: Variol (Farseer) Elmwood ]

To name a FEW good metal bands: Symphony X, Dream theater, Angra, Dragonforce, Stratovarius, Dimmu Borgir, Elvenking, Edguy, Sonata Arctica, Dragonland, Rhapsody, Manowar, Shadow Gallary, Hammerfall, Demons & Wizards, Axenstar, Keep of Kendassin, Iced Earth... Getting the picture?
[EDIT] I mean as a black/death metal singer he's one of the best. Black metal, Death metal, what ever you want to call them and HUGE jelousy of you, Even though i myself, and a guitarist, Shagrath is still a HUGE idol of mine. Do you know Battlelore? Quote:
wall of sound - check black metal style singing - check Together with not so death metal lyrics I say it's black metal But well it doesn't really matter much unless you don't like any of the two and you have to make clear that some bands don't fit your likings [ 12-18-2004, 10:20 AM: Message edited by: philip ] |

The bands i mentioned aren't heavy, not in my opinion. Well, Keep of Kendassin are, Dimmu are, but that's about it. Nah, not heard any Battlelore, i'll try some. They sound power metally, and power metal's ALWAYS good. can NEVER have enough of it

*ahem* I don't really listen to heavy metal but the only reason I responded to your comment was because you specifed that your comment was not only directed towards the Heavy metal genre, but all types of music ("not just the mentioned genres"). Rap- New music is SO much different to the old stuff it ain't funny. The beats are now much better, the variation in lyrical stylings more obvious, and everything that isn't NWA/Snoop Dog/LL Cool J/Sugarhill Gang and Rakim is NOT completely rubbish. You've got rap from the UK, different types of Rap in the U.S, on average the stuff put out today is much better. "Christian" Rock hit it's peak with "Creed" btw, another new-age band (which I love). Old "mainstream" Rock < New "mainstream" Rock Mozart < Beethoven The writing's on the wall man. I'm not saying the old stuff is rubbish, I lurve listening to Gun, Manowar, Spectre General and other old fellas, it's just that the average quality output is better now than it was then (especially when you're forced to endure a "Best of so and so year" mix tape, this REALLY seems to be the case. >_<). But our differing opinions could have something to do with you being older with me, you growing up listening to your preferred music, have nostalgic memory's of the music and as a result lovin' your music more than the stuff that's released nowadays. AND the fact that I'm younger, grown up with my music, more likely to think its better for the same reasons...yadda yadda yadda Both of our opinions are biased, we're not going to convince each other that we're "wrong". So I for one, am going to stop and direct my energies to other, more productive matters...like an Online petition. ------------------------------- BTW listen to "Tenacious D", they're scientifically proven to be the best Rock band....EVVVVVAAAAAAA1!!!11!111 [ 12-18-2004, 01:18 PM: Message edited by: Sigmar ] |

Don't take me too harshly on the music thing. But I really do find that acid rock stuff to be bad noise. There just doesn't seem to be any talent involved. And the problem I have with Heavy Metal is, there always seems to be than Satanic aspect to it. Iron Maiden, Ozzy, you know. Striper is the only acception I know of, but then they are Christian.
Yeah, and we all know only Christians can make good music! Right? Right... With all due respect (seriously), you have not an inkling what you're talking about, I'm afraid. Firstly, you are mixing up completely different styles. Acid rock? Heavy metal and hardcore are not at all the same thing. You're also way off on the "Satanic" thing. Without even going into the fact that for the bands who DO dabble with the occult, it's just an image, a way to rile up people like you and to add a dark little edge to their music, I have to ask whether it really matters what someone believes in in order to appreciate their music. I didn't think so. And as for your remark about the lack of talent in metal/hardcore bands, I am not sure whether to laugh or roll my eyes in contempt - I think I did both simultaneously and it wasn't a pretty sight. I would REALLY like to see you play just a few bars of any song by, oh, Meshuggah, Cynic, Queensryche or The Mars Volta (none of which, I'm afraid, are "satanic" bands, so you can't hide behind that excuse either ). No talent? Are you kidding me? Some of the most inventive, complex and difficult music is being made under the banner of "Metal". Again, I'd advise you to attempt to learn just a tiny bit more about a subject before you start talking, next time. This impassioned and heartfelt rant, by the way, was brought to you by someone who spends 90% of her music-listening time adoring classical music. You know, the kind with the Christian masses and violiny goodness? Can't say I'm a brainless metal fan whose brains have long ago dribbled out of my ears from all the "noise".
Hehe, go Mel While I don't share your passion for Metal etc. I can appreciate where you're coming from. I too am fed up of no-brained idiots, who come out with the "rap, sorry I mean crap (harr harr)" line every time it comes up. They will never have any idea of the level of poetry and lyrical complexity which can mostly only be found in this genre. Oh well...
