Think of an archmage as a older (wiser) mage who knows tons of kick-ass spells and isn't afraid to use them

That is right. I believe I also heard/read somewhere that an archmage is usually about 100yrs. old...being that they have used spells to slow down the aging process. I do not know the origin of this claim, though. Maybe a link that Memnoch provided me with long ago. ------------------ Devoted member of the Ironworks Loyal guardian of the OHF Member of the Ancients' club |

IN AD&D terms a Archmage is a mage past a certain level, I think it is somewhere beyond 12th but I need to verify that with my old Players Handbook.

the mage school of ... (shit, forgot the name, it is a country on east coast of Faerun, it had a similar name to elven nation, and its ended with "thyr") anyway, archmages are the ones past most of the tests, and became school masters. lvl 12 is a very close guess |

So if archmages are mages past level 12. Than technically everyone who's played through TOB had an archmage. Cool!

BGII is not AD&D, in sense of its structure and interactions it is screwed up version of CRPG |

The reason I asked is:
*SPOILER* In ToB, Imoen had a conversation with the NEW NPC, where he calls her weak or something. And then she treatening him, saying "I am an archmage now" or something. ------------------ We call him Bobby Corwen |

The level that dictates a mage becoming an archmage is different for each campaign world.
For example, in Dragonlance there can be only one archmage of each order (orders = good, neutral, evil.) I believe the Good archmage must reach level 18, Neutral must reach level 16 and evil must reach level 13 (evil gains power faster.) In most other campaigns, unless specified differently, a mage is definetely an archmage by level 18. You will never see a young archmage as it takes many, many years to gain such power. I consider any mage 16th level or above an archmage, and only if their intelligence is 18 or higher. ------------------ a bunch of long hairs. trux |
