Even if they acquire it legally, and are perfectly legal with it at first there might some day arise something that makes them want to do something illegal with it, out of revenge for example. Or just pure hatred.

Neb, I have no problem with your stance on firearms. However I do have a problem with this statement above. Who died and made you overseer of all us "fools and idiots"? Oh, I
left out "morans" too. That is an elitest statement if I ever heard one. What makes you any better than anyone else or are you including yourself in that blanket statement above? If so, just who should be doing all that thinking for us?

Oh well I do know someone who as a kid was shot in the eye with an arrow fired from a bow by one of his mates when they were 'mucking about' - he didn't die, but it was bloody messy.

lol, you two cwazy kid's
Well this conversation has really blown up into a debate. To ban gun's or keep them, civil right's and liberties hmmm, now I dont
know much about other countries rules twords fire arms but in todays day and age it is better to be on the side of caution, yes I do have a firearm and yes I can use it, would I depend's. Yes it is locked up and put away and yes the bullets are stores elsewhere, this is mostly because I feel safe enough in my own physical abilities that I will be able to stop someone who has broken into my house, granted this is if I can get the drop on them. it is a wacked world and our morale standards seem to keep dropping. When I was growing up you called adult males Sir or Mr and the opposite for women, now it seems you cant even get somone to look you in the eye when they say hello.
Fire arms are very dangerous, but it is only a weapon, it is the person who hold's it that has the real issue. You can license people and check there background and they come up smelling like roses, but what is the one thing you alway's here about them ? Not him, he was always so nice and helpful" was alway's in a good mood" He had the perfect life I just dont understand how he could do that"
The point I am getting at here is that you never know the person unless you take the time out, not just read the black and white of them read between the line's. I know even with this approach you can never know, but go with your gut feeling, it is usually right. IMO

For the "Bows are legal, so guns should be too" stuff:

#1 With one pull of a trigger and a pointed gun you can kill someone. With a bow just a small gust of wind can prevent you from making a kill, or even a hit. It is FAR easier to kill someone with a gun.

#2 It's easier to walk around with a concealed gun than it is to walk around with a concealed bow, even when dismantled it fills quite a bit.

#3 Bows are used almost exclusively for sport and I have yet to hear of anyone killing anyone else with a bow and arrow. Killings with guns, on the other hand, we hear about almost every day.

And Taliesin, sorry if my comment seems haughty or insulting, but that's just my view of the world, I've mostly encountered uncivilized, crude and foolish people so far. It would please me a LOT to be proven wrong, and of course it differs from society to society. IW, a small society in it's own right, is certainly not suffering from a majority of idiots and a minority of clever people.

These numbers come directly from the National Vital Statistics Report released on 9 October 2001 for the calendar year 2000. Of course, these numbers are US statistics only.

Total number of deaths due to injury by a firearm: 28,117

Total number of firearm related deaths in the UK for 1998/99 was 49. In the vernacular - do the Math!

Either that or they can get a safe deposit box or other such thing to store their weapon outside of the house. That should remove any chances whatsoever of the child(ren) getting their hands on them.
