Well I'm not a USC fan but a little confused with the rankings and who is allowed to play in a bowl game. One would think that if you're ranked number one, then you would go to it. Go figure! [img]smile.gif[/img]

Reminds me of a headline in our local paper a few years ago. It was the hydroplane races and the Camel boat "Joe" beat "Miss Budwieser". Well maybe you can guess the headline in the paper the next day....
"Joe smokes Bud"

That's supposed to be the way it works, and that is why they put the BCS system in to place. There used to be co-champions, and they wanted to eliminate that. The computer that figures out the rankings takes into account the polls, but also includes strength of schedule, etc.

Here's what the polls stated:

1. USC
2. LSU
3. Oklahoma

The reason? Oklahoma lost the championship game for their conference (they were blown out 35-7), while LSU won theirs (also a complete destruction over #5 at the time Georgia). USC also annihilated their opponent. However, when they put it in the computer, this is what they got:

1. Oklahoma
2. LSU
3. USC

Thus, even though the polls stated in that USC is number one, they do not get to play in the title game. Instead, Oklahoma plays for the title, even though they didn't even win their conference. The BCS system is under major fire right now. The only reason they do not switch to a playoff system is due to the money that they get from the bowl system. I love college football, but really hate the bowl system.

LoL...definately USC should play in the bowl game. The ESPN poll results were something like 79% of the people who took it thought USC and LSU should be in the pro bowl...i mean, to be honest, they could just take the "C" out of the BCS...
