I was watching the News about half an hour ago and in passing mention the news reporter said that four UN workers had been killed in the US airstrikes. What the hells up with that? Have I heard wrong? Anyone with more info please tell.

Sad to say that it's true. They were part of a mine disposal unit.

You know, not to sound paranoid - I'm just very cynical...

I'm not saying that these innocent people DIDN'T die in the bombing, but how do we know that they did? Could it be propaganda? These people could have been killed by the Taliban and they just SAID that they were killed in the bombing.

I hate it that my mind works like this sometimes, but I was raised to NEVER believe anything you are told or read in instances like this. Question everything that is reported, especially by the 'enemy'. Propaganda runs rampant on both sides in war. I wouldn't put it past the Taliban to kill lots of people themselves just to say that WE did it. This kind of thing has happened in other wars, so I expect it to happen here.

Of course this is sad - but no sadder than the other people who are dying as a result of this. I thought 'collatoral damage' was expected? Or perhaps only muslim 'collatoral damage' is acceptible???

what a mind! well thought! very likely, I say!
but which media reported this piece of news firstly?

where is the source of information? needs to question more before it becomes an international crisis.

well thought, DragonMage

Hey Epona dont worry remember I think much like you do about this. The reason I posted this thread was more that it was quite ironic that the 4 UN workers were mentioned on the news yet the Afgani innocents who have died were not. Quite sad really

Actually, they DID report that the Taliban said 20 Afghani 'innocents' died in the first bomb run. However, again being cynical, how do we KNOW that's how they died? I think it's awful they died at all, but anyone from now on who dies (whether by our bombs or at the hand of the Taliban) will be blamed on us irregardless.

Edit: And I put 'innocents' like this because how do we know they were innocent? For all we know, 20 Taliban officials died. (Geez, I'm cynical.)

Realistic?!?
Id say a more fitting word would be paranoia.
Sorry if that sounds harsh but blaming the deaths of the innocents and UN workers on the Taliban sounds IMO is gutless and not admitting that it most probably is the US airstrikes which are to blame. Sorry DM but remember the Taliban are not the only ones who can twist facts. But hey I could be wrong. But your cyansism seems very unrealistic.
