I got to thinking about Gorion's defense against attack in the prologue. What normally happens is this. If you attempt to kill Gorion in the prologue, he fires off a lightning bolt that kills you instantly. I don't have Gatekeeper installed, but I used the console in BG1 to serve up a hefty helping of lightning resistance gear. Nope. One-hit-kill bolt of lightning. This is supposed to keep you from screwing up the plot, but doesn't getting yourself killed screw up the plot already?
Think of it this way. If Gorion kills you, then there wouldn't be a reason for him to leave Candlekeep, because his life isn't in danger--yours is. But the only reason Gorion is killing you is the game's defense against the PC killing off the only way to get out of the prologue! Maybe this is because it's late at night, but it just doesn't make sense to me! Why would Gorion kill you for attempting to kill him because killing him wouldn't get you out of the prologue?! In other words, the game's telling you "in order to make sure the game progresses, we're going to have to kill you." ?! I wish something else would've been done here. Kinda like the same way you can't shake Imoen unless you dismiss her from the party or get her chunked. Something like setting some game code saying "if the PC tries to kill Gorion, have Gorion cast Protection from Normal/Magical Weapons, then admonish." In a perfect world, I'd like to try to take on Gorion with my quarterstaff, have him get fed up with me, and say "Ungrateful little snot! If you don't want me around..." then pick me up and heave me over the Candlekeep wall, Dwarven Thrower-style, and end up in the circle area to deal with Koveras, Tamoko, and the ogres all by myself. What do other people think about this?

I agree! I've tried to kill Gorion several times in a MP game, but to no avail. As far as chucking over the wall, I think a stunning spell is in order. A mage of his ability be able to knock you out just as easily as kill you! Well thats what I think anyway.
