To find the bandit camp (I think that's your problem)
In Beregost there is a mage on the second floor after you have cleared out the Nashkel Mines. Comfront him and get the info about the bandit camp. (and it will be placed on the world map) Alternatively - In both Larswood and Peldvale there are a 'bandit chief'. Talk to either of them and say that you want to join them - then you'll be 'teleported' to the candit camp(posted by Ar-Cunin) What second level(where)?

The mage is on the second floor of Feldepost's inn, in Beregost. You can't miss him.
Edit: Now all your problems are solved? I'll believe that when I see it [ 02-20-2003, 07:50 PM: Message edited by: Arledrian ]

(SPOILER)
. . . . (you'd better believe it!) . . . . I don't have the exact text, because my current BG parties are either pre-Nashkel Mines or in Baldur's Gate, but there should be two notes in Mulahey's chest, and one of them mentions Tranzig being in Beregost, and I even think says the building he's in. Like I said in another post, if you're having problems keeping everything straight now, wait until you get into Baldur's Gate. Whew!!! In this game, especially since it's your first time playing, you need to... 1: ...explore everywhere. Every house, every townsperson with a name other than "commoner" or "beggar" or something equally common. You miss out on a lot of stuff if you don't take the time and explore. 2: Read notes people drop and listen to advice people say. Same reason as #1. 3: Don't cheat. It's tempting to install a cheat program to make a godly character or make everything killed or whatnot. What's the point of playing if you're cheating in the good stuff? The fun of the game comes from solving the various riddles and puzzles and finally figuring out the winning strategy in a battle. My very first BG party suffered through about 14 reloads because of a nasty guy who kept kicking their butts. I finally figured out how to beat him, and winning a battle using your own brainpower feels pretty darn good. Better than anything Shadowkeeper or the CLUA console can provide. The frustration you feel at not being able to beat something on the first try will fade once you get it right. PS: The nasty guy who kicked my butt 14 reloads in a row? The belt ogre. Yes, THAT belt ogre. Because I didn't explore thoroughly (didn't find other party members), didn't listen to in-game chatter (and missed Gorion's speech), and while I didn't cheat, it's pretty suicidal to go up against the belt ogre with a mage with four hitpoints and no other party members to help...

That belt ogre is a real bastard if you don't know what you're doing. Fortunately, I do. I take him on my own, straight after Gorion's speech. I drink a potion of speed, sling a bow over my shoulder, and off I go. He's really not hard at all - plus, when you're first level, those 270 experience points are more than welcome, especially when you're in a hurry to advance to be able to survive more than one wolf bite. I remember once I tried to kill him with a solo mage, back when I was a novice; now that was a laugh. Foolus Maximus lasted about three and a half seconds. The last thing he ever heard was "Me crush you to-" and never even learned of his gooey demise before it actually happened. It was a beautiful service, so I couldn't complain, but this was sorely outweighed by the annoyance of restarting. Who'd be a newbie, eh?

Easy way to do it (without using the potion of speed):
Arm Imoen with the bow. Get your character to run around the bush while she peppers him with arrows. Keep running around until he dies.

Ah yes, the old 'running around in circles while shooting' tactic that we all use at some time or other. Works on the Ogre, works on Seravok and quite a few of the bad guys in between. Enjoy!
