Hi, haven't played this kind of game before. How do you get spells into a mage's book as known spells, so that they can be memorized? My mage has gone up a couple of levels, and has blank boxes in his book on the left-hand "memorized" section, but no spells listed on the right-hand section to memorize. Thanks!

You need spell scrolls. You can find them or buy them from Orrick in Kuldahar. When a spell scroll is in the mage's inventory, right-click on it. One of the options shown below the scroll description should be "Write Magic". Click on that to attempt to write the spell into your spell book.
This is only an attempt. It can fail. I always quicksave my game before trying it so I can reload if the attempt fails. If it does fail, you lose the scroll. There is often only one of a certain spell scroll in the game. If you fail that one, you won't ever be able to learn the spell. So I cheat by saving and reloading as necessary. Realize that your mage can't learn priest spells, although there are some priest spell scrolls. |
