Here's the deal. The only real application I have EVER heard of for kevlar is in bulletproof vests, but for some reason, my new hockey stick is something like 25% kevlar. Why is this? Do I really have to dodge bullets on the ice? Is kevlar used for something else (I have chem next semester.)?
However, since we have gun control here, I will carry around my stick when walking through alleys on dark nights.

The kelvar is put in there in case a puck hits it. People can hit shots at 120+ you know.

A quick "askjeeves.com" search turned up:
- bulletproof body armor - protective clothing for lumberjacks, auto workers, motorcycle riders, people who cut/handle glass, - high heat resistant gloves, aprons, for steel manufacturing, welding, etc, - can be added to PVC, rubber, etc to improve cut resistance and give extra protection against some chemicals - build strong, lightweight canoes/kayaks - truck bedliners - aircraft fuselage panels I guess anyplace people need strong, lightweight, durable materials for protection... Kevlar is an advanced composite material, very useful for a number of different applications. A material very similar to Kevlar, but not exactly the same, is used in the bodies of Formula 1 and CART race cars.

Kevlar is used to make military helmets. It's pretty strong, able to stop 40 or 50 caliber bullets, I can't exactly recall.

Have you ever been hit in the head by a puck ? If so, you'll understand why sticks must have a little extra. changing sticks 4,5, or 6 times in one match can be pretty annoying.

I've played hockey for 8 years. Of course I've been hit in the head (that's why I am the way I am ) One of the kids on my team had a slapshot clocked at 80 mph. Guess who got hit in the head!
Anywho, I've only managed to break two sticks ever. One was broken by a player who I later fought, and the other was a Nike piece of crap that broke the 1st shot I took with it.
