Will "Use Any Weapon" and the fortress shield +4 mess up my bard's spells?

I was just wondering, because I got the melodic Chain (kick ass, no more bracers of AC!) And would like to know If I'll be able to use spells after equipping the fortress shield, or anything else bigger than a buckler. (I'm a long way from lvl 24, so it'll be a long while before I get the "use any weapon" skill)

No armor, sorry. Use Any Item makes your rogue like a dual-class with EVERY class. Just like a Fighter/Mage, you can cast spells with a helmet or shield on, but not heavy armor.
