I'm still not altogether clear on the feat system, regarding when you get extra feats.
Here's what I know - from the manual, as I don't pay much attention during the game as to when my characters gain feats. 1) All characters gain one feat at first level; humans and some halflings get an extra. 2) "Regular" classes get another at 3rd level, and one every three levels after that (6,9,12, etc). 3) Wizards get one bonus feat every 5 levels. 4) Fighters get a bonus feat at first level, and get another every two levels, not every three - 3,5,7, etc. Here's what I'm unclear on; how does it go for multiclasses? Say, for example, you are using a fighter/barbarian. Do you get the feats according to the level of each class - so that if your character was F/Barb 5/5 you would have 6 feats? 1 for first level fighter + 1 bonus + 1 for first level Barb + 1 for lvl 3 fighter + 1 for lvl 3 barb + 1 for lvl 5 fighter = 6? Also, if you have more than two classes, do you get a feat at lvl 1 for each class? Is that one of the plusses of taking 3 or more classes? Here's what this is working around to - would a fighter/(other class) 5/X have more feats than a fighter/(other class) 4/X+1?

I've always been somewhat iffy on the subject, but if your facts are right then a fighter4/____ would get an extra feat. I would still go with fighter4/_____, since you get your new abilities faster. Knowing this, adding an extra fighter level later would be a good way for getting an extra feat.
Off the top of my head, a fighter4/mage could take a fifth fighter level at mage level 7, to get spirit of flame or the equivilent immediately. |

Ah, thanks, J'aran. That makes sense now. I misread the manual to mean that fighters get feats every two levels, not get a bonus on top of the normal pace of feat gain.
So here's a question then; why don't more people take pure-class fighters?

Too many feats. I mean, having Weapon Specialisation and Focus in all weapons mioght be fun, but nah. They're great for getting the saves feats early, an plentifully.

Here's another question for the gurus.
How does the BaB work for multiclass fighters? If you have a fighter/wizard 4/X that starts as a fighter, takes all 4 fighter levels, then multiclasses to wizard for the remainder, what will the BaB be? The BaB of the fighter is +4 at lvl 4, but what happens when multiclassed to wizard? Does the (slow) increase of BaB from wizard levels add on to the fighter BaB? What about the progression of additional attacks?

You gain a additional attack every time your lowest natural BAB(without strenght modifiers, proficiency and anything) is greater than 5. This rule applies to monks only if they wield a weapon, rather than their fists. BABs stack.
