DVD is not an issue for me - Bose 1-2-3 system was my Christmas gift from the wife.

My humble opinion, if your PC is less than 18 months old just buy a new HDD for your PC. Especially for FPS games there's no way any console can compete... even intuitive control schemes are clunky and awkward compared with a basic mouse/keyboard setup. I bought Microsoft Rallysport Challenge for the PC, and the only gripe I've got about an otherwise great game is the HORRIBLE console based GUI. It takes three times longer than it should to navigate the menu's, very annoying (it's worth it though to be able to drift a corner perfectly as you watch your buddy slide off the cliff ).
I do like some of the adventure games on consoles... mostly because no one has ever made them for the PC, but for everything else the resolution, flexibility, and power of PC's are unbeatable. I've had a few drives fail in my day, but never in less than 2 years... if your drive really failed in a year then you should send it back (Western Replaced the 540 meg unit that failed in 2 years for free). |

I've noticed a few things (not just from this topic)
Most people seem to recommend the system they own Xbox seems to be a more "adult" console (no kid games, mostly FPS) Gamecube seems to be a "kid" console, as noted earlier PS2 does have the largest variety of games (biggest selection, many kinds) PS2 does have the smallest capability for graphics, mostly because it is the oldest system of the three Most new consoles double as DVD players I own a PS2, and I think that it's the best (based on what you said you wanted) since it has the largest selection. Xbox in second, since it has the most FPS games. (Do you have any advice for the Control level on Goldeneye? (James bond game for the N64) I can't beat it on 00 Agent level even with cheats on to give me maximum ammo, invincibility, and all guns. Natalya keeps dying. Once, I got her protected long enough for her to finish her part, but she was killed while telling me she was finished.) |

if you are buying a console system just because it got one or two good games, then you'll be wasting your money. this is because after finishing those two games, what will you do?
PS2 games got lots of variety for you to choose, and if you can read and understand japanese, you'll notice you got even more variety of games to select. don't forget, if you feel bored, you can always go pick a hen...ooh laa laa game ( those games are always in japanese ). All three of the consoles are supposed to be releasing their sequels in 2005. (PS3, GCN2 and Xbox2) |

Back to the new system. Let me now ask: 1. How do the SAME games compare between systems. Who has the best Splinter Cell, Medal of Honor Frontline, Clone Wars, and other such games? [Edit-- who has the best Two Towers? - and is it good?] This will involve different questions, such as which has best graphics and which has best interface. Sound is not such a biggie with me. 2. I think there are plenty of games for any system so that doesn't really seem a concern now. 3. Which has the best interface. I chose N64 over PS1 due to the analog stick and how it fit my hand like a glove. Plus Mario 64 blew my mind. (I also got all 120 stars at least 4 times.) 4. On Mario, how is the new one? Is it as Oh-My-God as Mario 64 was? (Can you tell I'm leaning ever so slightly toward GC?) Purchase will occur this weekend. [ 04-23-2003, 01:55 PM: Message edited by: Timber Loftis ] |

Soul Caliber - one of my favorite games of all time - alone makes Dreamcast tempting. But, I want to be able to find and buy new games.
